Charles Spencer Paid A ‘Big Price’ For Diana Memoir, Royal Expert Claims

Charles Spencer seems to have taken a gamble with his book, Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, and subsequent events indicate it might not have been worth the blowback: at least according to one royal commentator.

Misjudging the Situation

Neil Sean spoke more about the book that upset the likes of Piers Morgan so much. It came during his Daily News Headlines vlog on YouTube on Friday. Sean argued that Charles Spencer badly misjudged the situation.

In Neil’s view, Spencer lives in a “cocoon world” after spending 29 years being admired mainly as Princess Diana’s brother. That long spell of goodwill, Neil suggested, gave him a false sense of safety.

Interestingly, the royal expert might have made a good suggestion. Retrospectively, he felt that the Earl might have been better off producing a picture book full of warm family photos. Instead, Spencer chose to air grievances, and Neil called that a costly mistake.

The biggest consequence, according to Neil’s source, involves Prince William. Neil said William was “absolutely mortified” by claims in the book about King Charles. Remember, Spencer said that then-Prince Charles claimed “we’ll forget her soon enough” after he heard about the death of Diana.

Another claim was that when viewers saw young Prince Harry and his brother Prince William walking behind their mother’s carriage, that it was simply to divert attention away from Charles.

William & Spencer On The Outs

We previously reported claims that William’s relationship with his uncle, Earl Spencer, had deteriorated, and Sean returned to that subject. This time, he used the words “allegedly…cut off.”

It isn’t clear exactly what William said about it, but allegedly, he’s unhappy and most folks can buy into the theory.

Beyond what was written in the book, Sean also raised the question of trust. He claimed William would have to be careful about any conversation with Spencer because his uncle has hosted Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Sean also pointed out that Charles Spencer has remarried and claimed William hasn’t met his new wife. In his view, that could make William wary about having private family conversations around someone he doesn’t know.

A Possible Paperback

There was also a publishing angle. Neil claimed that allegedly, Penguin Random House hoped William and Harry would read the book and give a quote “for the paperback.”

That plan is now “dead in the water” on both sides, according to his source. Right now, there doesn’t appear to be a confirmed publication date for a paperback edition.

William & Lost Trust

Notably, it’s not only Neil Sean who talks about William and trust issues. According to The Express, Prince William is reportedly furious about the claims.

In the opinion of the royal expert, Charles Spencer paid a “big price” for whatever Penguin Random House gave him. It could take years before he gets near William, Catherine, or their children again. If ever.

So the book made headlines. It may have made money. But according to Sean, it may have cost Spencer the one thing he can’t buy back. Trust is hard earned, easily lost, and you don’t have it be part of the royal family to know how fragile it can be.
