Actress Selma Blair was arrested over the weekend after she allegedly assaulted airline staff and attempted to open an aircraft door mid-flight. Since then, more details have emerged.
What Happened On The Flight
The incident happened aboard a Delta flight on Sunday, October 11. According to The Guardian, the flight was en route from Los Angeles to New York.
The outlet reported that “Port Authority officials responded to a call about a physically abusive passenger aboard Delta Air Lines Flight 938, which was parked at the gate” after landing.
Blair allegedly tried to open the aircraft door mid-flight, and when crew members intervened, things got worse. She reportedly punched one flight attendant and bit another.
In air traffic control audio shared by Fox News on YouTube, the pilot could be heard telling controllers that one flight attendant and one passenger sustained minor injuries, including a bloody nose and bite marks.
Assault Charges Filed
Police took the 54-year-old actress into custody at John F. Kennedy International Airport. They transported her to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center for an evaluation.

According to the Associated Press, the FBI issued Blair a notice charging her with assault for her alleged actions aboard the plane. The federal charge will be handled in a petty violations court in Brooklyn.
The AP also reported that Blair was separately charged in a Queens court on Monday night with two counts of second-degree assault.
The charges relate to allegations that Selma Blair assaulted a police officer who was taking her to hospital after the flight and a nurse after she arrived there.
In the Queens case, the judge set Blair’s bail at $20,000 cash or $60,000 bond. She posted bail and left the court with her attorneys. Her next court date is scheduled for January 19.
Attorney Cites Medical Condition
The Hollywood Reporter cited her representative as saying, “Selma experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct.”
The representative added that she received immediate medical attention upon landing and is in stable condition.
According to KCRA.com, one of Blair’s attorneys, Shawn Barnes, told the judge that her actions were not intentional. He said the actress, who has multiple sclerosis, had missed several doses of a powerful medication used to control severe neurological symptoms.
Authorities haven’t confirmed whether her medical condition played a direct role in the latest incident.
Previous Flight Incident
In 2023, we reported that Selma Blair had been removed from a Los Angeles-bound flight on a stretcher in 2016 after screaming uncontrollably and claiming she was being assaulted.
She later apologized and explained that she had mixed alcohol with medication, which caused her to black out.
Viewers React To The Arrest
On the Fox News YouTube coverage, one viewer remarked, “Prosecute her and ban her from the airline. She tried to open the plane door. No special treatment.”
Here are a few more responses from the discussion:
- “This is the second time she’s done this. She should be banned from flying.”
- “She better be placed on the no fly list. Horrendous. The other passengers must’ve been terrified.”
- “That’s a violation of public safety, they should charge her with a felony.”
