Some might suggest that Meghan Markle is slumming it these days considering the fact that she was spotted in Beverly Hills wearing a white linen dress that any normal woman might wear. The dress reportedly cost only $76.00, which is an astounding drop in price compared to some of Meghan’s other outfits. Indeed, some fans of the British Royals might have felt their jaw hit the floor since it’s well-known that Meghan has incredibly expensive tastes.
For example, most of the things Meghan has been seen wearing in public include designer gowns, such as the Victoria Beckham dress she wore to the Endeavour Fund Awards. That dress cost Meghan an easy $1,285. Then there’s what many consider to have been one of Meghan’s largest scandals … she was marrying the second tier prince, yet she spent as if she were headed for the throne herself. Meghan spent $75,000 on her engagement dress whereas Kate Middleton (who is headed for the throne) only wore a dress priced at $600!
Then there’s the fact that Meghan spent over $500K on clothes during her first year as a Royal. Many fans of the British Royal family might agree that amount is simply staggering!
With all that said, there are some who believe that life back in the United States, and without a royal salary to continuously dip into (despite continuing to mooch off of Prince Charles’s Duchy of Cornwall), Meghan is having to learn to temper her spending habits. Reports indicate that when she went to town with Prince Harry recently in Beverly Hills, she wore a white mask to match her dress (gotta sport COVID fashion these days), a straw hat, some cool shades, and a black shoulder bag.
With all that said, if anyone thinks that Meghan Markle is truly slumming it or working on making herself more humble, they really ought to think again. After all, Meghan and Prince Harry are residing in a palatial estate owned by movie mogul Tyler Perry. That cost of that mansion is $18 Million. It has over 24,000 square feet, has 8-bedrooms, and 12-bathrooms. No one lives there except Meghan, Harry, little Prince Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland, and a couple of dogs.
To many, Meghan and Prince Harry’s living arrangements don’t sound like those of people who are looking for privacy, for financial independence, or for a less extravagant lifestyle. Instead, they sound like exactly what they are … the Duke and Duchess of Sussex continuing to live in the lap of luxury despite having no income of their own. As British presenter Carol Malone has noted, Harry is “one of the most privileged white men on the planet.” It’s worth noting that despite her mixed-race status, many believe Meghan Markle has plenty of privilege all her own.

As most know by now, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back from their Royal duties and their positions as senior members of The Firm. They then moved to Vancouver Island in Canada before heading out to California where the Duke and Duchess of Sussex reportedly plan to live long-term.
