Bold And The Beautiful’s Matthew Atkinson Speaks Out About Replacing Pierson Fode

The Bold and the Beautiful (B&B) spoilers tease that Matthew Atkinson was initially pretty nervous about taking over a role that was once played by Pierson Fode.
He added that he had never taken over a role that was previously played by someone else, so this role is brand new territory for him. Here’s what you need to know about Matthew’s short interview.
Atkinson revealed that he was nervous, at first, about taking over the role after learning that Pierson Fode exited the role. He didn’t know much about Fode, but he was well aware that B&B fans liked him as Thomas. And he admitted that Fode is a likable guy and mastered the art of making Thomas appear multi-dimensional.
Bold And The Beautiful News – Reprising A Role Is A Daunting Task
He worried that he would not be able to compare. He knew that eventually, the fans would warm up to him. He just felt that coming in and taking over a role that another actor had played is a daunting task.
“This character has been on the show for years. I just want to live up the fans’ expectations,” Atkinson shared with CBS Soaps In Depth.
Atkinson said that Thomas is way different than Y&R’s Austin. He thinks that when playing a recast role, you have to live up to the previous actor – which they may have been better than you or not as good. But in the back of your mind, you have this cloud of “did someone else do it better than me?

“With a new character, you have so much freedom to make the role yours. It’s a clean slate and you can do whatever you want with the role. They have no history and no one knows anything about them.”
