When she stepped foot on the Weatherfield, she never ceased to express her delight as she and her whole family grew up watching the soap, and she hailed the opportunity as “a dream come true.”

Hill mentioned that it’s one of the most difficult decisions she has to make, but the pandemic pushed her to leave the popular drama. “It’s not been an easy thing to decide. My family has been important, but the pandemic has made a lot of people think about the future,” she told The Mirror.

“It has changed a lot of things in my head. You’ve just got to see what’s important to you. I absolutely love everybody, but it’s made me think about my family a lot and what the priorities are in my life,” Hill continued. She will still going to act but only to those that will allow her to have more time between projects, unlike in the soap that requires her to always be on call.

The “Cape Wrath” star also mentioned taking care of her 88-year-old mother, who resides in Sunderland, and spending more time with her grandchildren, Bowie and Daisy May, who are currently in Melbourne, Australia. Despite her leaving Weatherfield, Melanie Hill is grateful for the production for keeping the doors open for her return.

Coronation Street Spoilers – John Whiston Shares Thoughts About Melanie Hill’s Exit

The head of the ITV, John Whiston, said that Melanie Hill will be truly missed in the soap, for she has a skillful way of playing her role as Cathy Matthews. “Cathy has been a fantastic ‘Corrie’ character, whether that’s leaving us in fits of laughter or breaking our hearts, yet again, Brian (Peter Gunn) doesn’t live up to her romantic expectations,” Whiston said.

As for her final storyline, which she finished filming two weeks ago, Hill mentioned an emotional scene of two middle-aged people who are into each other but not meant to be together. As reported by The Mirror, Cathy’s final scenes will be aired next month.
