Coronation Street actors Georgia Taylor and Will Mellor have responded to fans who claimed social distancing is “ruining the show.”
Will Mellor, the portrayer of the evil drug lord Harvey Gaskell, first hit back at a fan who commented on a photo teaser on Twitter which shows his character, and lawyer Sabeen Habeeb (Zora Bishop) sat meters away from each other in jail.
An unhappy viewer expressed disappointment in the comments: “And still 2 metres apart! [It’s] killing the show.” The same user added: “Soaps seems to be one of the few places with covid restrictions.”
Actor Will assured the fan, saying that there are more intense scenes to come once he escapes prison: “Do[n’t] worry! We are not 2 meters apart when Harvey gets out!!! Trust me.”
Another Twitter user sided with the soap, claiming he’d rather be distant from anyone too than having covid, but the disgruntled fan did not take that, rather claimed that the virus is nothing worse than flu for most that are vaccinated. “The soaps are been a bunch of bed wetters.”
That’s when the actress Georgia Taylor joined in the conversation to elaborate why the healthy protocols were necessary: “Actor has covid. Isolates for 10 days. Every single crew and cast member they have been working with (prior to latest regs) has to isolate.”
“Corrie has to halt production. That (and to protect people) is why we’ve had to adhere to these rules. To keep the show on air x,” she clarified.

But Georgia’s explanation still did not silence the disappointed fan which she hit back with a reply: “If it’s ruining it for you then don’t watch for now.”
The actress assured they will be back to normal in the future and clarified she’s not getting into an argument with the fan, rather just explaining the scenes especially behind the cameras. “We film many weeks in advance of transmission which also impacts things,” she ended.

Ahead of the upcoming Super Soap Week with intense storylines to flood the television, Corrie Boss Iain MacLeod has talked about the challenges they encountered. With the success of their filming, MacLeod said he can’t praise the cast, the crew, and the production team enough.
“We felt we were very well steeped in the ways of COVID-safe filming, so we felt we could ramp it up just for this week. We wanted to really go to town on these moments of closeness and intimacy, which we’ve been having to ration for the last 12 months,” he told Digital Spy.
