Alec Baldwin Lawyer Responds To Possible Rust Shooting Charges

DA Cautions Against Speculation

The “Rust” shooting that led to the tragic death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchens is still being investigated. Alec Baldwin, 64, held the prop gun that took her life, although he has maintained that he never pulled the trigger on that fateful day, per KTBS.

PEOPLE Magazine reports that Luke Nikas of Quinn Emanual said that the DA made it clear “she has not received the sheriff’s report or made any decisions about who, if anyone, might be charged in this case.

“And during my communications with the DA’s office just a few weeks ago, after the August 30 funding request was submitted, I was told that it would be premature to discuss the case because they had not yet reviewed the file or deliberated about their charging decision.

“It is irresponsible to report otherwise. The DA’s office must be given the space to review this matter without unfounded speculation and innuendo.”

Alec Baldwin – Still Potential Suspect

These comments come in the wake of a New Mexico Board of Finance meeting last week at which time District attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies commented about the case. At the time, she said, “We are within weeks, if not days, of receiving the final report from the sheriff’s office…

“It’s become apparent that we will be potentially charging between one and four people with criminal charges, and each of those charges will probably include some variation of our homicide statute.”

The DA’s office also said in the letter to the board that, “one of the possible defendants is well-known movie actor Alec Baldwin.”

Alec Baldwin – Credits Wife Hilaria for Continued Acting

Last month Alec Baldwin claimed that he had lost a total of five jobs since the “Rust” shooting incident and that he would have had to quit the film industry if it wasn’t for the support from his wife Hilaria Baldwin, 38, who just gave birth to the couple’s seventh child they named Ilaria, a name that clearly plays off of her mother’s moniker.

In Baldwin’s words, if he didn’t have his wife of 12 years, “I probably would have quit, retired, gone off, you know sold everything I owned, got a house in the middle of nowhere and just you know did find something else to do, sell real estate.”

Baldwin has said that if he ever returns to a movie or television set, he won’t be using a real gun, preferring instead to leave the gunplay to the digital effects team. Be sure and stay up to speed on this
