A new Aquaman trailer turns the spotlight on the film superhero’s baby boy. But what happened to Mera, the character whom Amber Heard famously portrays?
Find out everything to know about the new Aquaman trailer that Warner Bros. just released. And check out the video below.
Aquaman Spoilers – Jason Momoa’s Arthur Curry Plays Key Role
The new trailer for Aquaman describes the movie as the superhero’s “last stand.” And that description comes amid questions about Amber Heard‘s character of Mera. However, the drama outside of the movie involves a serious shakeup at DC and Warner Bros.’ superhero movies, per Too Fab.
And as tickets go on sale, Warner Bros. unveiled the new trailer for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. However, as fans quickly noticed, that video diminishes the role of actress Amber Heard.
And the minimal footage for Heard follows rumors that her trial against Johnny Depp impacted her role in Aquaman. But adding to the evidence, the new trailer shifts the spotlight to the bond that Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa) develops with his baby boy, Junior.
Aquaman Spoilers – Black Manta Wants Revenge
As the trailer starts, Aquaman gazes at fish in a fish tank. And he explains to his son that the two possess unique powers. Those abilities mean that the two can actually communicate with the ocean world.
However, the baby plays a special role as the key Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) needs to fulfill his desire to destroy Aquaman. And the synopsis reveals, “Having failed to defeat Aquaman the first time, Black Manta, still driven by the need to avenge his father’s death, will stop at nothing to take Aquaman down once and for all.”
But now Black Manta has become “more formidable than ever before.” And the synopsis reveals that the “power of the mythic Black Trident unleashes an ancient and malevolent force.”
Aquaman Spoilers – An Unlikely Alliance Forms
But even the mythic Black Trident doesn’t defeat Aquaman. And instead, “to defeat him, Aquaman will turn to his imprisoned brother Orm, the former King of Atlantis, to forge an unlikely alliance. Together, they must set aside their differences in order to protect their kingdom and save Aquaman’s family, and the world, from irreversible destruction,” reveals the official synopsis.
However, fans looking for Aquaman’s partner Mera (Amber Heard) need to look closely. Because despite a far shot of Mera dashing toward a burning house, she has gone missing in action. And the movie doesn’t even reference her.
As a result, some suspect that Heard’s allegedly reduced role relates solely to her trial with her ex Johnny Depp. And Amber herself revealed amid the trial that producers made her role in the movie “very pared down.” However, the actress shared that she “fought really hard to stay in the movie.” And she claimed that the studio “didn’t want to include me in the film.”
Aquaman Spoilers – Watch For A ‘Bromance’
But director James Wan shared that the movie set out to focus on Aquaman and his brother, Patrick Wilson’s Orm. And in contrast, the first film featured “Arthur and Mera’s journey” in the “romance action-adventure” genre.
However, Wan claimed that the new movie features a “bromance.” And he added, “We’ll leave it at that.” Aquaman fans can start watching the movie in theaters beginning on December 20, 2023.
