Barbra Streisand is in trouble with Melissa McCarthy’s fans, and the 82-year-old actress would deeply appreciate it if the backlash could end.
After all, all she meant to do was pay Melissa McCarthy a little compliment and fans just blew it out of proportions.

Barbra Streisand is not apologizing for her latest Melissa McCarthy statement, she’s only clarifying it so that critics know it’s not as dark as they want it to be.

“I went on Instagram to see the photos we’d posted of the beautiful flowers I’d received for my birthday!” Barbra wrote in an April 30 post on X. “Below them was a photo of my friend Melissa McCarthy who I sang with on my Encore album.”

After seeing the pic and recognizing McCarthy, she revealed she thought the 53-year-old “The Little Mermaid” actress looked “fantastic.” She clarified: “I just wanted to pay her a compliment. I forgot the world is reading!”

Barbra’s explanation comes after Melissa McCarthy dazzled in a pastel dream dress at the Center Theater Group gala alongside director Adam Shankman.

Sharing a picture from the event on April 29, she wrote, “Pastels only to honor the incredible @matthewbourne13 at the @ctgla gala last night with this fella. “Thiiiiis much closer to my dream of dancing on stage.”

Barbra then went to the comment section to quip, “Give him my regards did you take Ozempic?”
When the backlash started to gain momentum, Barbra quickly deleted the comment, leaving fans to wonder whether she had meant to message the singer privately.

At the height of the whole internet storm revolving around this little statement, or mis-statement, fitness coach Richard Simmons publicly defended the actress.

“I love Melissa McCarthy … I have seen every one of her movies. A famous legendary singer, B.S., made a remark about her weight loss … and was asking if she had used a popular weight loss shot,” the fitness coach, 75, wrote via Facebook on Tuesday, April 30. “What a question. I apologize to Melissa for these remarks. And by the way, Melissa you look fabulous! Love, Richard.”
