Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton made headlines this year for celebrating New Year’s Eve on opposite sides of the nation.

But the songstress made it clear that it didn’t bother her. And she explained why they rung in 2024 separately via Life & Style magazine.

Because Blake decided to perform for New Year’s Eve Live: Nashville’s Big Bash on CBS, Gwen retaliated by taking the stage in Las Vegas. And she noted that at first, she did plan to attend Shelton’s show and set her own career aside. But then Stefani changed her mind.

And as the songstress explained, she decided if the country music king wanted to prioritize focusing on his career on New Year’s Eve over spending time with her, she would do the time. “It’s funny because I was going to be at his show,” shared Gwen. “And then Vegas called. I was like, ‘Eh, I’m gonna do it.’ If you’re gonna be working, then I’m gonna be working.”

Blake Shelton Feels Heartbroken

However, while Gwen described the situation as funny, Blake didn’t see the humor. And an insider described the country music king as “really upset” and “disappointed” that Gwen decided not to spend New Year’s Eve with him. But the source also sees that situation as just another red flag in their marriage.

And the insider warned, “Gwen and Blake’s marriage is definitely in trouble. Lately, they’ve been at odds about everything from career decisions and the parenting of her three boys to where they spend most of their time. The tension continues to grow.”

As a result, the source feels that Shelton and Stefani keep “drifting apart.” And raising another red flag, the country singer, 47, stunned with news that contradicts his self-proclaimed “drunken redneck” persona. Last month, Blake revealed he plans “to either cut back or stop drinking altogether.”

And the insider feels that Shelton made that vow because of Stefani. “Some say Gwen doesn’t really like him boozing. And this was a gesture to appease his wife,” added the source.

Blake and Gwen first became friendly as celebrity coaches on The Voice. And the two united over going through their respective divorces. Stefani struggled over her split from Gavin Rossdale, 58. And Shelton went through his own emotional pain over his breakup from Miranda Lambert, 40, in 2015.

Six years later, the two tied the knot in Oklahoma. And Shelton became a stepfather to the sons who Gwen shares with her ex Gavin: Kingston, 17, Zuma, 15, and Apollo, 9.

However, “the honeymoon period didn’t last all that long,” claimed the insider. And Gwen reportedly feels hurt that Blake doesn’t support her work. As a result, the two keep “fighting,” added the source. “Gwen and Blake are leading separate lives. It’s very sad. But the writing seems to be on the wall for their marriage.”
