Disney Receives 500K Petitions To Reinstate Johnny Depp To Pirates Of The Caribbean

Fans of Captain Jack Sparrow in ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean have poured out their desires to see that their favorite actor in the movie ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean is brought back to the 6th sequel of the film.

The petitions from fans of Depp to Disney World came as a result of the ongoing defamation trial in which Depp is suing his ex-wife Amber Heard 

for $50 million over her 2018 Washington Post op-ed chronicling her experiences as a domestic violence survivor. ​​Though Heard never mentioned Depp by name, his lawyers maintain that references to him are clear and that the op-ed damaged his career and reputation.

Depp appeared in all of the five “Pirates Of The Caribbean” films as Captain Jack Sparrow. Depp says that because of Heard’s domestic violence allegations, Disney cut him off from the 6th sequel of the film along with other prominent roles including Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore.

Now, over 566,000 fans have signed a petition on Change.org asking Disney to rectify that situation. The viral petition was started by a user named Kimberly Giles and addressed to The Walt Disney Company, its CEO Robert Iger, its CFO Christine McCarthy and it’s vice president Alan N. Braverman. 

It reads: “Johnny Depp has always been one of the greatest actors ever since he started acting around the age of 21. This man NEVER disappoints when he makes a movie, so why continue to keep him from doing Pirates of the Caribbean?? That movie is nothing without him! Please sign this petition to help Johnny Depp get back to what he enjoys and does best.”

Many fans have strong feelings about this case, and it looks like those feelings influenced Giles in the writing of her petition and many of the signatories as well.

“Johnny Depp is not only a great actor, but a real gentleman. He is brave and strong for fighting back against mental and physical abuse. He deserves so much better. God Bless Johnny Depp!” reads one of the most recent signatures. Another reads: “he is innocent and she is a basket case.”

Johnny Depp — Did Heard’s Allegation Cost Him Everything?

Regarding the fallout from Heard’s abuse allegations, Depp said he lost “nothing less than everything,” adding that regardless of the outcome of the defamation trial, he has already “lost.”

“When the allegations were made and rapidly circulating the globe, telling people that I was a drunken, cocaine-fueled menace who beat women suddenly in my 50s… no matter the outcome of this trial, the second the allegations were made against me and turned into fodder for the media… I lost then,” he said. “I lost because that is not a thing that anyone is going to put on your back for a short period of time. I will live with that for the rest of my life. Because of the allegations and because it was such a high-profile case, I lost then no matter the outcome of the trial… It never had to happen, and I don’t quite understand why it did in the way that it did.”
