Freddie Prinze Jr. Has “Zero Interest” In A “Scooby Doo” Sequel

Fans may still recognize Freddie Prinze Jr. as the beloved character from the first live version of “Scooby Doo” – a movie that thrilled, and continues to thrill, hundreds of children from all over the world.

There is something wonderful about seeing the Mystery Inc. crew go on the most fun and interesting adventures, but one of the cast members is now opening up that the set wasn’t as friendly as it should have been. Sadly, he’s also got no interest in returning for another round of mystery.

Freddie Prinze Jr. – Criticizes The “Scooby Doo” Team For Being Dishonest

Freddie Prinze Jr. recently appeared on the TooFab podcast and talked about the movies where he had bad experiences on set. Who could believe that “Scooby Doo” – the “Scooby Doo” – would make the cut.

It’s been almost two decades since Freddie Prinze Jr. played the live-action version of Freddie Jones in “Scooby Doo,” but, even now, he’s got no interest in reuniting with the Mystery Inc. crew anytime soon. According to him, a follow-up to 2004’s “Scooby Doo: Monsters Unleashed” is not “something I would do,” especially since he had trouble getting through the first two.

Freddie Prinze Jr. Says He Has “Zero Interest” Appearing On A “Scooby Doo” Sequel

“I have zero interest, it was tricky,” he told TooFab.

“It wouldn’t be for me, man. There was too much bait-and-switch on the first one. The studio was not honest with me in any way, shape or form. They were not straightforward,” said Prinze, adding: “I’ve been on two jobs where I’ve had regret doing it, and Scooby was one of them.”

Freddie Prinze Jr. – On Appreciating “Scooby Doo” More When He Saw the Impact of the Movie On Countless Fans

During its premiere in 2002, and its follow-up in 2004, “Scooby Doo” drew the interest of a lot of young fans, who were simply fascinated by the talking dog and his goofy friend Shaggy, the intelligent and analytic Velma, the purple-obsessed Daphne and their “cool” leader Freddie.

But even as the star of the movie, Prinze did not fully appreciate it until he saw the impact it made on young fans.
“Then, all of a sudden, I was like, ‘Hey man, we did good. There are legit millions of people who love this movie. It’s not the movie I wanted to make, but I appreciate that,'” Prinze continued. “And it made me change my outlook on it.”

There’s always been calls for a “Scooby Doo” return, but it gained traction in May 2022 when James Gunn – the director of the first two movies – responded to a fan’s hope of seeing the team reunite onscreen with these words: “Like the Big Chill with Scooby Doo? Okay I’m in.”
