George Wendt passed away in May, and now the cause of death of the Cheers star has been made public. Fans adored the comedic actor who played the role of Norm Peterson. However, it seems that several issues contributed to his death. Read on to find out what was wrong with the sitcom star.
The Cause Of Death
TMZ obtained the death certificate of Wendt, and the outlet revealed that the primary cause of death was “a cardiac arrest.” The certificate was issued by “the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health” on Thursday this week. Other issues mentioned included “end-stage renal disease — kidney failure — and hyperlipidemia, which relates to high cholesterol.”
Sadly, George Wendt passed away in his sleep, and fans and his family were heartbroken. A statement by his family said, “George was a doting family man, a well-loved friend and confidant to all of those lucky enough to have known him.”
One of those lucky people who will always treasure memories of the TV star was Chris McKenna (Jack Brennan) on General Hospital. He shared several tributes to his friend and mentor. Meanwhile, fans will forever remember his grand entrance to the bar, where he would open the door to a chorus of people yelling. “Norm!” Plus, he often joked about his fictional wife, Vera.
Can High Cholesterol Cause Kidney Failure?
Because George played the Cheers role of a man who spent a lot of time drinking in a pub, it doesn’t necessarily mean that in his personal life, he drank too much. According to WebMD, high cholesterol can damage the kidneys.
The website explains, “When they looked at kidney function and cholesterol together…researchers found that high total cholesterol and high ‘bad’ cholesterol showed up more often in men whose kidneys weren’t working as well.”
Heart issues, like a thickened heart muscle due to high blood pressure, can cause cardiac arrest. Also, high cholesterol and high blood pressure often go together, and both can raise your risk of heart problems and stroke.
Fans React To The News
George Wendt was 76 years old when he passed away. So, the actor wasn’t a young man. Always a chubby-looking man, he seemed out of condition as he aged. One Instagram fan recalled him at a function where, eventually, hassled by the gathering, he chugged down a beer.
Others talked about his ‘heart,’ as in what a great comedian he was, and how nice he seemed. However, hardly anyone was surprised that he passed away after a cardiac arrest.
One follower said, “Is anyone surprised? RIP.” And another one penned, “Well he looked out of shape and unhealthy.”
