Jeremy Renner Credits Snowplow Accident For Testing Him And Making Him Physically Adventurous

Jeremy Renner is choosing to shut out the painful and traumatic side of his near-death snowplow accident, and is instead focusing on the insights he gained from it.

Following the accident, the actor has turned to trying out new things while he’s still learning to navigate life and health.

More than 30 broken bones later, and Renner is learning that there’s life beyond the limits. Last week, he released “Love and Titanium,” an album of songs inspired by his recovery.

This week, he’s appearing in a Super Bowl campaign for plant-based milk company Silk and executing some challenging physical performance. A feat he says he was able to accomplish because of his great “test.”

“I never would’ve tried or attempted any of these types of moves,” Renner said of the commercial, which finds him “dancing around like James Brown on a countertop. I did everything, and it felt good and didn’t hurt too much the next day,” he said of the shoot.

As for getting back to work amid recovery, the two-time Oscar nominee admitted that it hasn’t exactly been smooth-sailing. “To be honest, there’s a lot of hesitancy, and it’s baby steps for me in this deal.”

Renner appeared in the campaign alongside his 10-year-old daughter Ava, who he sees as a “beacon of hope” both in their relationship and wellness journey. “I still don’t believe it, that it’s even really transpired,” he marveled.

“There’s some sort of milestones that give me confidence, and this is probably another one of them,” Renner continued. “It’s a beacon of hope for me and for my daughter as well, and this is a new part of our journey together in recovery and in life.”

Renner’s new album draws a lot from the thoughts that ran through his head whilst he was in the hospital, as he’s undergoing surgery, and throughout recovery.

In his chat with PEOPLE, he described the feeling as “being on the ice after being ran over and the thoughts and feelings running through your brain, and a lot of parts of recovery.”
