Kim Kardashian Got Duped With Fake Marilyn Monroe Hair?

Scott Fortner – Claims He Has Proof The Hair Is Fake

Per People, after Ripley’s Believe it or Not gifted the 41-year-old SKIMS mogul the supposed lock of Marilyn Monroe’s hair, it didn’t take long before Monroe historian Scott Fortner caught a glimpse and called it out as a fake, claiming that he has receipts to prove it.

Fortner took to Instagram on Friday and wrote, “News Alert: Marilyn Monroe Hair Gifted to Kardashian by Ripley’s is Fake,” adding, “Who styled Marilyn’s hair for the JFK gala: Robert Champion or Kenneth Battelle?”

Fortner shared a screenshot from Ripley’s site that also featured another lock of the famous icon’s hair displayed in Kardashian’s Met Gala dressing room. Ripley’s had originally claimed that the hair was cut by Robert Champion just prior to her “Happy Birthday Mr. President” performance for John F Kennedy on May 19, 1962, three months before her death.

“News Flash: Robert Champion did not cut and style Marilyn’s hair for the JFK gala,” Fortner continued. “It was actually the one and only ‘Mr. Kenneth’ (Battelle) who had the honors. Battelle is responsible for Marilyn’s famous hairstyle from that night, as documented by a receipt from Lilly Dache Beauty Salon.”

A representative for the museum denied that allegation claiming that the hair gifted to Kardashian was authentic and that the one in the dressing room was not the same. They said that the museum contains “six different samples of Marilyn Monroe’s hair — all authenticated and truly Marylin’s.”

They said that the hair Kardashian received was gifted to Champion by Monroe herself. It was authenticated by John Reznikoff who they referred to as “one of the most respected and trusted experts in the field of hair collecting.”

Scott Fortner – Declares Kim Kardashian’s Wearing Of Monroe Dress ‘Cause For Concern’

Fortner told the magazine earlier that Kardashian’s wearing of the dress was problematic because the dress had been tailored to specifically fit the curves of Monroe’s body. Monroe’s Estate, however, has said that Monroe would have approved of Kardashian’s wearing of the dress.

Kardashian, of course, thanked Ripley’s for a loaner in an Instagram post earlier this week, writing, “Thank you Ripley’s Believe It or Not! for giving me the opportunity to debut this evocative piece of fashion history for the first time since the late Marilyn Monroe wore it. I am forever grateful for this moment.”
