Todd Phillips’ “Joker” made waves when it was first released in 2019. The DC film was critically acclaimed and it paved a way for a sequel to be signed off on almost immediately the first movie was released.
Even though Phillips’ Joker was a bit unconditional, because instead of seeing an active villain, we were introduced to one that was almost languid, it still received lots of admiration from DC fans. While most other Jokers tended to be crazy, wild, and unpredictable, Phillips’ Joker was creepy.
Writer/Director Todd Phillips Shares Cryptic Image Of Joaquin Phoenix’s “Joker”
At the end of the first “Joker” movie, we saw Phoenix’s character start a revolution, making it possible for Joker to become the proper menace that he’s known to be this second round.
Joker’s backstory revealed him to have a problematic and sick mother. He was also made out to be a struggling comedian who breaks into laughter at his own jokes. However, he doesn’t necessarily laugh at jokes about him.
In general, I don’t think it did much to push the “a villain is just a victim whose story hasn’t been told” narrative, because there’s very little to excuse him for.
In the Instagram snap, shared by writer-director Todd Phillips, we see a first glimpse of the 48-year-old Academy winner playing the notorious villain.
“Day 1. Our boy. #joker,” Phillips, 51, captioned the image of Phoenix’s Fleck, who is shirtless and being shaved in Arkham prison with his head tilted back over a sink.

Margot Robbie – Congratulates Lady Gaga On Her “Joker” Casting
The upcoming sequel, “Folie á Deux”, will be a musical and will include Joker’s notorious sidekick. In fact, “Folie à Deux” means a delusion or mental illness shared by two people,
Played by Lady Gaga, Dr. Harlene Quinzel (a.k.a Harley Quinn) and the Joker’s meeting will be one of the central topics of the sequel.
When Lady Gaga confirmed news of her casting in August, Margot Robbie, who played Harley in both “Suicide Squad” movies and 2020’s “Bird of Prey”, revealed her joy to hear that Lady Gaga will be taking the reigns this time.
“It’s such an honor to have built a foundation strong enough that Harley can now be one of those characters who other actors get to have a go at playing,” Robbie told MTV. “And I think she’ll do something incredible with it.”
