It’s been more than a decade since one of pop’s most defining artists passed away, and this year, she’s getting her very own biopic with the blessing of her family members.
According to the writers, great research was done to honor Amy Winehouse, her legacy, and the relationships she had.
You don’t have to worry, her music and rise to fame is one of the biopic’s central themes, and fans will get to vibe to some of her hits along the way. Like I said, the movie was made with her estate’s blessing.
Mark Ronson Shares Thoughts After Reading Script To Amy Winehouse’s Upcoming Biopic
Mark Ronson didn’t only get to work with the “Back to Black” songstress in her successful second studio album, he also performed onstage with her and was considered one of her close friends prior to her untimely death.
In April, the biopic, poignantly named after her second and final studio album, “Back To Black,” starring “Industry’s” Marisa Abela, will be released in the UK and Ireland.
“Back to Black” is set to give fans a sense of her intense rise to fame and her colorful living in London through the years since she achieved fame.
Abela is said to have re-recorded many of Winehouse’s songs for the project, with the approval of her estate.
On Jan. 14 at the Critics’ Choice Awards, producer Mark Ronson admitted that he’s seen the script for the biopic.
He said: “The only thing I know about the film is I know Sam quite well, and I read the script and I feel what it did really nicely was… I was reminded of [Winehouse’s] humor and it really caught that well.”
“I think she just had this whip-smart razor sense of humor which is one of her many gifts and they got that very nice in the film. I’m looking forward to seeing it.”
“Back to Black” had a lot of critics during their earlier days as a result of the sensitive nature of Winehouse’s death. Many accused them of capitalizing off the singer’s pains and demons and exploiting her legacy.
However, her family does not think so. In December, Winehouse’s parents said in a statement: “We are thrilled that StudioCanal, Focus Features and Monumental are making this movie celebrating our daughter Amy’s extraordinary music legacy and showcasing her talent in the way that it deserves.”
