Reese Witherspoon Says She Would Be “Lucky” To Be A Billionaire

I know, there’s a lot of speculations around actress Reese Witherspoon‘s net worth. And why not? The media company she founded, Hello Sunshine, has made some of our newest favorite movies, she continues to be a top actress herself, and she’s got investments in lifestyle and fashion brands. She’s going to be loaded, right?

Well, she is. But the billionaire status is slightly overblown.

This Friday, Reese Witherspoon made a speech at the INBOUND conference in Boston. During the event, she used the opportunity to address several rumors that say she’s joined the billion dollar club.

This is coming after Wednesday reports that state Consortium Brand Partners had acquired a 70% ownership stake in Witherspoon’s fashion and lifestyle brand, Draper James.

According to Forbes, this deal makes her “the wealthiest self-made female actor in the world.” Notice they didn’t say “one of the.”

Naturally, people started imagining that she’s either claimed her billionaire status or is so close to claiming it, especially since she sold her Production Company, Hello Sunshine, in 2021 for the whopping sum of $900 million.

Not wanting the title of a billionaire to dangle over her head any longer, the actress shut it down during a conversation with NBC News Daily anchor Zinhle Essamuah in Boston. “I didn’t,” she said of the rumors, adding, “they’re wrong.”

She added, “That’s enormously flattering and if I ever touched the bottom of whatever Oprah’s magic golden boots do, I would be so lucky.”

For someone who started her career so young, Witherspoon has had more than her fair share of rejection, and she’s done letting it bother her these days.

“I think I started so young, and rejection was such an early piece of my life that I learned a long time ago that other people’s opinions of me are none of my business,” she said.

Witherspoon continued, “I really don’t care what anybody thinks. I’m gonna do my work anyway. I’m gonna date whoever I want, go hang out with a friend nobody likes.

When you release that feeling of other people’s opinions crushing you or holding you down, you’re free. You’re totally free.”
