Ricky Martin Responds to Allegations He Has A Sexual Relationship with His Nephew

Ricky Martin‘s legal team recently responded to sick rumors that Ricky Martin had a “sexual relationship” with his nephew. The motion was originally filed by his nephew, who accused him of sexual violence. If found guilty, Ricky Martin could be sentenced to 50 years in jail.

Ricky Martin’s attorney Marty Singer revealed earlier that the star was being wrongfully accused and further evidence will clear him of the allegations.

The lawsuit was filed earlier this month in Puerto Rico, with police officers trying to contact him in order to issue him a court order.

“Unfortunately, the person who made this claim is struggling with deep mental health challenges. Ricky Martin has, of course, never been — and would never be — involved in any kind of sexual or romantic relationship with his nephew,” Marty Singer, attorney for the Puerto Rican singer, told PEOPLE exclusively in a statement.

He continued, “The idea is not only untrue, it is disgusting. We all hope that this man gets the help he so urgently needs. But, most of all, we look forward to this awful case being dismissed as soon as a judge gets to look at the facts.”

Ricky Martin’s Brother Reveals Petitioner’s Identity, Despite Police Keeping His Name Secret For Safety Reasons

The complaint against the star was made under Law 54, otherwise known as the Domestic Abuse Prevention and Intervention Act per the Georgetown Journal of Gender and the Law. However, as a result of the sensitive nature of the bill, authorities decided not to make the name of the petitioner public.

Martin’s reps pushed back on the claim by calling it “false and fabricated” and saying that further evidence will prove the 50-year-old completely innocent.

Martin’s legal team issued a statement, saying, “We are very confident that when the true facts come out in this matter our client Ricky Martin will be fully vindicated.”

Last week, Spanish media outlet Marca reported that Eric Martin, the singer’s brother, disclosed that the petitioner is Ricky’s nephew.
