At this point, it’s easy to predict that all parties are fed up with the strike and would want to resolve things as fast as possible, but SAG-AFTRA is still adamant they will not be agreeing to any deal unless it is fair and benefits all the members of their union, upcoming or established.
Zachary Quinto Says Studios Are Relying On Intimidation Tactics To Get the Union To Agree On An Unfair Deal
Last week, after some silence from studio heads, they suddenly surfaced with a deal they said was their “last, best and final” offer as the strike entered its 115th day.
“The guild is still reviewing the proposals,” a SAG-AFTRA member told Deadline when the union refused to announce whether they’ll be meeting with studio heads this week, or even anytime soon.
“There’s a lot to digest here,” a Guild insider said of SAG-AFTRA’s review of the studios’ response proposals. “This simply takes time to review and to respond.”
SAG-AFTRA’S Chief Negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Irel Is Said To Be Working Hard To Review The Terms.
“The TV/Theatrical Negotiating Committee analyzed and thoroughly discussed the AMPTP’s counter proposal all day and well into the night and will continue our deliberations on Monday,” the union said. “We will keep you updated.”
Meanwhile, “Star Trek” alum Zachary Quinto believes studio heads are still not ready to give the union a fair deal. He said: “The AMPTP is trying to capitalize on fatigue and harness pressure from the industry at large (agencies and studios especially) to break our resolve and have you and your incredible negotiating committee accept whatever it is they’ve thrown at us and say thank you.”
“Their decision to use ‘last best and final’ language in their most recent counter proposal tips their hand and shows that they are relying on intimidation and not fairness to bring this strike to an end,” he said.
Zachary Quinto Promises To Keep Picketing Outside Studios Until A Fair Deal Is Reached
In a later post, Quinto revealed that he will be picketing outside studios on Monday and will continue to do so for as many days as it takes studios to offer SAG-AFTRA a fair deal.
“I hope this deal is acceptable, but I’m not so sure and I hope that our leadership recognizes that, and I hope our leadership knows that we’re behind them, we support them, we’re grateful for them and we empower them to represent us fiercely for what we deserve,” Quinto said.
