Shannen Doherty Files For Divorce

Actor Shannen Doherty has filed for divorce from her husband Kurt Iswarienko after 11 years of marriage. This is coming after she shared about her “bitter” journey battling cancer with ABC News’ Juju Chang in 2021.

You may remember Shannen Doherty charming us on movies like “Charmed” and “Beverly Hills, 90210.” In recent years, the actress has been open about her battle with cancer.

You can imagine that at this point in time, she’d need all the support from those who love her and not seek to push anyone away, so you might wonder why she filed to divorce her husband of 11 years. However, she knows it’s the best way to move forward.

“Divorce is the last thing Shannen wanted,” her spokesperson Leslie Sloane said in a statement released via email on Saturday. “Unfortunately, she felt she was left with no other option.”

In early 2020, the now 52-year-old actress opened up about her conflicting emotions regarding her recurring breast cancer which has advanced to stage 4.

“I definitely have days where I say, ‘Why me?’ And then I go, ‘Well, why not me? Who else? Who else besides me deserves this?’ None of us do,” she said on a Good Morning America interview.

The actor first revealed her battle with cancer in 2015, and since then, she has shared her health updates with fans on social media. She was forced to undergo chemotherapy and radiotherapy following a surgery that revealed that some of the cancer cells may have spread beyond the lymph nodes.

On Friday, April 21, the actress, even though she did not directly refer to the divorce, touched on it when she shared the quote: “The only people who deserve to be in your life are the ones who treat you with love, kindness and total respect.”

Doherty has been married thrice, with two of them lasting no more than a few months. In November 2018, tragedy befell the actress when she lost her house to the Woolsey fire.
