Taylor Swift shocked fans with a music update. Swifties are eagerly awaiting her highly anticipated breakup album, The Tortured Poets Department. She made them excited with her latest move in regards to her music. Keep on reading to learn more.

Taylor Swift – Makes Major Move

In February, several artists’ music was removed from the TikTok app due to an expired agreement between the social media app and Universal Music Group.

There are concerns about whether it’s the end of TikTok as we know it. Congress wants to pass a bill that would ban the app in the U.S. by June 2024.

Taylor Swift Shocks Fans With Music Update

Taylor Swift drove her fans crazy with her latest move. She teased her upcoming music. On Thursday, April 11, many of her songs returned to the social media app just a week before her new album.

Swift made the announcement when she accepted her 13th Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album for Midnights at the Grammys in February.

Swifties are now able to listen to her music on TikTok. Songs like “Cruel Summer, “Style (Taylor’s Version),” and “You Belong With Me (Taylor’s Version)” can now play on TikTok. However, there are still songs from her debut and Reputation that aren’t available on the platform.

That’s because Taylor Swift is re-recording her old music catalog. She has two albums left. Fans reacted to this latest news on X, formerly Twitter. “If anyone’s gonna have her way in this industry it’s Taylor Swift,” one user wrote. “Oh, we won,” another user wrote. “Glad it’s back,” added a third.

TikTok And UMG’s War

It ignited on January 31, 2024, when the licensing agreement between TikTok and UMG expired. They failed to reach an agreement about keeping the music on the app.

In its statement, UMG claimed that TikTok tried to “bully” them into an agreement that they felt was worthless.

“TikTok’s tactics are obvious: use its platform power to hurt vulnerable artists and try to intimidate us into conceding to a bad deal that undervalues music and shortchanges artists and songwriters as well as their fans,” the statement reads. “We will always fight for our artists and songwriters and stand up for the creative and commercial value of music.”

TikTok responded to UMG’s statement. The tech giant called it “sad and disappointing” that UMG “put their own greed above the interests of their artists and songwriters.”

They also called out UMG’s “false narrative and rhetoric” involving the agreement. Despite Taylor Swift’s move back to TikTok, the other artists haven’t returned to the UMG label.
