Will Johnny Depp Return As Pirates Of The Caribbean Captain Jack Sparrow?

Johnny Depp first became Captain Jack Sparrow in the first Pirates of the Caribbean film in 2003. Since then, Depp re-created that character for four additional films. Johnny even got nominated for an Academy Award, with his portrayal giving new life to the beloved Pirates of the Caribbean rides at Disney parks. 

And Depp’s success as Captain Jack Sparrow didn’t stop with his Pirates of the Caribbean movies. Disney also chose the actor for movies ranging from Alice in Wonderland to The Lone Ranger. But then came the scandalous domestic abuse allegations from Johnny’s former wife Amber Heard.

In the wake of those allegations, Depp’s career suffered. The controversy eventually resulted in Disney seeking to prevent Johnny from working on any project linked to Pirates of the Caribbean project. But news of two future Pirates spin-off movies have fans wondering what might happen. Will Disney continue to block Depp? Or will he get a chance to resume his role? Find out more below.

Pirates Of The Caribbean News – Johnny Depp Has A ‘Dark Side’? Wrong, Says Co-Star

The last Pirates of the Caribbean movie in 2017 left fans hoping for more. As a result, many hope that Disney’s two Pirates reboots could revitalize the beloved franchise if Johnny Depp returns, per Screen Rant. And beyond fans, some of the actor’s co-stars also agree that without Johnny, Pirates of the Caribbean cannot succeed. 

For instance, Kevin McNally, who played Mr. Gibbs, has chosen to ignore Disney’s decision to block Depp from his role. After working with Johnny for five films,  McNally dismisses claims about Johnny’s “dark side.”

Based on his encounters with Depp, the actor has “never” shown “a hint of any dark side.” Instead, McNally views Johnny as a “a great humanitarian and a beautiful human being. I don’t see any impediment for him coming back and playing Jack Sparrow. I think there was a general feeling that without Jack there is no Pirates franchise. And there’s probably a lot of truth in that.”

In addition to his co-stars, Johnny Depp has experienced increasing support from fans. They even created and signed a petition for Depp to make a comeback on a Pirates of the Caribbean film as Jack Sparrow. 

Depp did win a defamation lawsuit but has faced continually coping with Heard’s allegations. As a result, the actor has faced challenges in restoring his career. The two upcoming Pirates reboots could prove a turning point.

One option for Disney would involve testing the waters by offering Depp a small role or even a cameo. That would provide a bridge from previous movies to the new ones, while giving Johnny a fresh start.
