AMC Alum Susan Lucci Doesn’t Think Real Housewives Are Like Modern Day Soaps

Susan Lucci, also known as Erica Kane on the now-defunct soap “All My Children” doesn’t think “Real Housewives” are like modern-day soaps. Her comment comes in disagreement to Bravo’s Andy Cohen comment back in 2014 that they have replaced soap operas.

“I don’t think they are the modern-day soaps. There’s no storytelling. There’s a lot of editing. It’s, like, they cut to the chase all the time, and I think it’s different,” Lucci said.

The actress pointed out that reality stars do well when it comes to entertaining but she still believes that they’re not the same.

Back in 2014, Cohen said, “I think the ‘Housewives’ have replaced the modern-day soap opera in a weird way for a lot of people. Soap operas — scripted soap operas — there’s only a couple on the air right now, and truth is stranger than fiction.”

Lucci’s Health Scare

The actress made the comment when she attended the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women Red Dress Collection event of February 5. Lucci supports the Women’s coronary health given that she herself suffered from a heart problem not too long ago.

She revealed that she previously received treatment because her heart has two blocked arteries. The actress said, “I was actually in a boutique. And I suddenly felt what I had heard someone on a TV interview years ago, a woman says that she, leading up to a heart attack, had felt like an elephant was pressing on her chest.” She got herself treated and is now doing well.

Is Lucci Open To An AMC Reboot?

Lucci played the role of Erika on “All My Children” for more than four decades, from 1970 to 2011. During her stint, she earned 21 Daytime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. She finally won her Emmy after her 19th nomination.

Even though it’s been years since the series appeared on the small screen, the actress said she’s open to an AMC reboot. She also revealed that she still keeps in touch with most of the show’s cast and crew.

“We are hearing a little buzz. It’s just important to be in the right hands. Lorraine Broderick was the head writer and I know that she’s a beautiful writer, so if she was [on board] that would help a lot,” she said.
