Coronation Street And Emmerdale Back To Six Episodes A Week In September

Coronation Street And Emmerdale ITV Coronation Street and Emmerdale spoilers reveal the terrific news that both ITV soaps are set to return to airing their usual spate of six episodes per week starting in September. The network has announced that the shows will resume their normal schedule after being forced to reduce the number of episodes due to filming restrictions brought about by the coronavirus pandemic.

Both soaps stopped taping in March due to enforced lockdown measures and in early June they were back to filming had resumed with new safety protocols in place.

Emmerdale was the first British soap to resume filming in May, and Coronation Street actors came back to work in June.

ITV released this statement: “We’re very pleased to announce that Coronation Street and Emmerdale will resume airing the normal pattern of six episodes each week from mid-September,” and it praised the cast and crew members as well as execs for their, “incredible work.”

The statement continued, “This is a testament to the incredible work that has been achieved in Manchester and Leeds by John Whiston, Managing Director of Continuing Drama and Head of ITV in the North for ITV Studios, and his dedicated and hard-working production teams, crews, writers and actors.”

During the downtown, the network aired six special coronavirus episodes, showcasing the characters Jimmy and Nicola (Nick Miles and Nicola Wheeler), Cain and Aaron (Jeff Hordley and Danny Miller), Chas and Paddy (Lucy Pargeter and Dominic Brunt), Sam and Lydia (James Hooton and Karen Blick), Marlon, Al and Ellis (Mark Charnock, Michael Wildman, and Aaron Anthony), and Mandy and Vinny (Lisa Riley and Bradley Johnson).

All of these actors came to the set for a socially distanced filming which revealed how the characters were coping during the lockdown.

So, what exactly are the new protocols in place to protect all individuals on set? There are many and they include the cast and crew having staggered lunch breaks and being encouraged to bring their own utensils. There are no chauffeurs and travel guides that “single-occupancy vehicles” be used where possible. To avoid contact, makeup touch-ups are restricted and outdoor filming is preferred, but not in a public space.
