Coronation Street News Update: Beverley Callard Is Done On The Cobbles As Liz McDonald

ITV Coronation Street spoilers and updates reveal that Beverley Callard has wrapped up her last scenes on the cobbles, according to the Sun Online.

She has had quite a magnificent run on the ITV sudser, playing barmaid Liz McDonald for over three decades. A source told the publication, “Liz’s time on the cobbles is over,” after 31 years in the UK drama and that she is no longer under contract.

But, the good news according to the source is that “She hasn’t been killed off so there is always the potential for a return but she is definitely done for now.”

Coronation Street Spoilers – Beverley Callard Is Done On The Cobbles As Liz McDonald

The veteran actress announced she was quitting her role last year. At the time of her announcement fans of their fave actress imagined that they would be treated to a grand and emotional goodbye to the legendary character. But to date, the show has not released any info on whether or not this will happen although in 2019 Corrie exec Iain MacLeod teased Liz’s heartbreaking exit.

How Will Liz McDonald Exit The Cobbles?

According to the ITV showrunner, “Liz’s departure is a long way off yet, but we want it to be big, heroic, and befitting of the character. She’s a tough woman, is Liz McDonald, so we want to reflect that.”

He went on to say that, “The idea – which is still in its embryonic stages – is that Liz attempts to do something heroic for her son as a result of this story I’m hinting at for Steve and Tracy.”

“Her efforts probably go slightly wrong in a way that will corrupt her relationship with Steve, and ultimately determine that the best place for her is not in Weatherfield.” Corruption? Having to leave one’s home? All of that does indeed sound spectacularly soapy and dramatic!

Coronation Street Spoilers – The Coronavirus Pandemic Has Upended Plans For Many Productions Worldwide

In 2020 however, things changed drastically and dramatically for the entire world, and that includes television productions. The pandemic forced tv and film stoppages worldwide and that included Corrie.

One thing that fans were hoping for was that Liz would still be on the cobbles when the legendary show airs its 60th anniversary later in the year.

However, according to The Sun Online, Beverley’s end date was fixed prior to the pandemic happening and she has already filmed her final scenes. A Coronation Street spokeswoman confirmed to the publication that Beverley has indeed finished filming on the soap.
