Coronation Street News Update: Bill Roache (Ken Barlow) Reveals When Mature Cast Will Be Back Filming

Coronation Street: Bill Roache ( Ken Barlow )ITV Coronation Street spoilers reveal that at least one veteran actor thinks that the show’s mature cast will be back filming by in time for fall. While the sudser has returned to production following the coronavirus lockdown, it is the younger and less vulnerable actors who are currently filming.

Now Bill Roache, who plays Ken Barlow, is speaking out about when the older cast members may be likely to be given the okay to return to the set.

Coronation Street Spoilers – At This Moment Some Actors Who Are In A Vulnerable Category Have Not Returned To Filming

According to the 88-year old Roache, fans may expect to see him and other older stars back to filming in a matter of weeks. To that end, he hopes to be back for the soap’s 60th anniversary later this year. He told The Mirror, “I’m looking forward to it – I don’t want to slow down. I want to speed up!”

“They have started filming again, but not for us oldies. But probably by the autumn, they have said we could be back. I had no idea until they contacted me and they asked me if I wanted to go back and I said yes.”

Roache went on to add that he needed to get his doctor’s opinion that the restrictions in place are satisfactory, and he has done so. He said that he has talked to fellow actor Simon Gregson, who plays Steve McDonald, in regard to how the filming conditions are moving along.

Simon told Roache that the conversations on set are as convivial as ever and that the cast and crew are understandably pleased to be back to work.

The Corrie Cast And Crew Are Very Happy To Be Allowed To Go Back To Work

Prior to resuming taping Corrie was on hiatus for about three months due to the coronavirus pandemic. According to The Sun, the stars currently working are observing social distancing in their scenes but have not yet referred to the pandemic.

At some point, the actors are expected to be seen in face masks and near the end of the month references to lockdown will begin.

An insider told the publication, “The new storylines will tackle the pandemic and the way it is affecting ordinary people — with pubs and restaurants doing takeaways and shoppers having to queue to get their groceries. But coronavirus will not dominate the drama.”

It was understood from the beginning that cast and crew in those groups most vulnerable to the virus would be kept off set. This includes those 70 and older and individuals with an underlying health condition.
