Coronation Street Spoilers: Coronavirus Pandemic Pops Up In Corrie Plots

Coronation Street

Coronation Street spoilers reveal that the show will indeed weave the coronavirus pandemic into its plots once filming starts back up. But, according to producer Iain MacLeod, COVID-19 won’t, “dominate every single story,” which is sure to be a relief to the millions of fans who have already had their fill of the real-life drama.

As is the case with the rest of the shows filmed around the world, Corrie has suspended production to protect the cast and crew from the infectious disease.

Although there is no firm date yet, execs expect to resume filming when restrictions are lifted. According to MacLeod, after much thought, he determined that the pandemic, “has to exist in our world,” assured fans that the whole thing would be, “handled with a light touch.”

How Will Coronation Street Incorporate The Coronavirus Pandemic Into Its Storylines Going Forward?

While MacLeod confirmed that the show would address the global phenomenon, he did not give exact details as to how it might be woven into the plot moving forward.

For instance, he has not revealed if a character will contract the virus. But he said that fans will see behaviors like hand-washing and food takeaways folded into the stories.

He added that “the Coronation Street that we love is the one that reflects modern Britain, albeit in a more heightened way sometimes. And it just felt that if there were to be no coronavirus in Coronation Street, it would stop being a reflection of modern Britain and would instead be a parallel fantasy land. So we took the view that it has to exist in our world.”

Coronation Street Spoilers – Execs Are Keen To Keep The Coronavirus Pandemic Plots To A Reasonable Angle

For fans who might be worried that the virus could take over the show in reel life as it has in real life, MacLeod stated that will not be the case, saying that it would not predominate the current storylines.

Corrie Execs Know That The Public Does Not Want To Be Inundated With COVID-19 Plots

To hear MacLeod tell it, the introduction of COVID-19 will be balanced with the other goings-on currently taking place on the show.

“Coronavirus is pretty much the only topic of conversation in my house,” he said, “but people wouldn’t want to tune in to Coronation Street and see every scene was people talking about coronavirus.”

“It’ll be there, it’ll be handled with a light touch, but other than that our storytelling will be business as usual.”
