Coronation Street Spoilers: How Corrie Will Handle Oliver’s Illness Storyline While Child Actors Can’t Film

Coronation Street: Leanne Battersby, Oliver BattersbyITV Coronation Street spoilers and updates reveal Corrie has been exploring a storyline with Steve McDonald, and Leanne Battersby’s son, Oliver, is in the center of it. Oliver was recently diagnosed with mitochondrial disease, and although the storyline has brought awareness to the disease, the storyline has not been completed.

This is due to the production being put on hold because of the Covid-19 pandemic. However, with the show resuming production, however, due to the new guidelines, children will not be returning to work. The children will not be able to come back due to the measures that the soaps will have to take such a social distancing. John Whiston pointed out that by bringing in child actors, it would create more traffic due to the chaperones.

Coronation Street Spoilers – Soap Boss Speaks Out

The soap boss, Iain MacLeod spoke to media during their press conference said, “The story was more about family loyalties being tested and marriages breaking down. The bulk of the scenes were with the grown-ups anyway. We also have a vault of shots of the children who play Oliver, so we can cut to stock footage. We have all bases covered in that regard. If that landscape shifts, it’s not inconceivable to have them back. For now, it’s better for the safety of the actors to keep them offset. It won’t radically change the story.”

Coronation Street Spoilers – Actors Reassure Viewers

Jane Danson, who plays Leanne, has come out to say that the storyline will not change majorly even with the exclusion of the child actors. “So often Ben and I have played to a piece of gaffer tape or a doll, so we have worked around that in the past and we have to accept the situation. The twins who play Oliver are absolutely amazing and rose to the challenge so it’s not ideal but we just have to do our best. The looks are played off the characters – it’s a bit disappointing not to have them as the story is about Oliver but so far so good. I hope we can get them back but safety has to become first.”

Ben Price, who plays Nick Tilsley, also agreed that it should not create a big issue, “I don’t think you lose a lot really – when we’re around that bed because you’re adults talking about a child who is very ill, it’s watered down, and there’s a lot that can’t be said. The scenes are more interesting between Nick and Leanne speaking from their heart. You find a way – it’s just different, it’s not necessarily worse.”
