This may have to do with how nasty the scenes have gotten in the storyline with Geoff and Yasmeen. Could the scenes have put the children off from wanting to watch Ian’s scenes?

Coronation Street Spoilers – Geoff Metcalfe’s Horror Scenes

Ian has been playing the role of Geoff Metcalfe, who has been abusive towards his wife, Yasmeen. The scenes that have been unfolding on the tv screen has been full of horror as the story continues, and the abuse escalates. However, Ian has said that his two kids have not been keeping up to date with the show ever since the scenes have gotten darker and nastier.

Ian told What’s On TV more about this in an interview as he said, “My kids have seen me in loads of other things. I’ve done loads of musicals and shows and plays in Manchester, Liverpool, and London. They started to watch Coronation Street, and when dad started to turn nasty, they said, ‘No, can’t watch it now, dad’ and I quite understand that.” This makes sense as the scenes have gotten very dark and very real in recent episodes and think will only get dark in the upcoming episodes.

However, he did say that they watch the episodes that are not all that bad, “If they want to watch it, I’ll say, ‘You can watch this episode because this one’s alright, but I don’t want you watching that episode, because daddy’s not being very nice.’ They know it’s not really dad, but they don’t want to see somebody who looks like dad being horrible.”

Ian has two children; one was born in 2005 while the other was born in 2007. As viewers know, he plays Geoff who is becoming more and more abusive towards his on-screen wife, Yasmeen played by Shelly King. The scenes are becoming more graphic through words and actions. Ian has taken the opportunity to play this role to question his own behavior when it comes to his family.

“There are boundaries and lines, but when you cross them and try to control somebody else’s behavior, that’s when it starts to get a bit messed up, and you have to be careful of that.     I feel for the actor, it is understandable, but this story with Geoff is very important to tell. A lot of people are living this nightmare and hopefully this will cause awareness and help the victims speak out and get the help they need.
