Coronation Street Spoilers: Older Actors Will Be On-Screen Despite Filming Ban, Here’s The Plan

Coronation Street Spoilers: Older Actors Will Be On-Screen Despite Filming Ban, Here’s The PlanITV Coronation Street spoilers and updates reveal that some older actors might not be allowed to return to filming for some time. That is because they are in the high-risk age group. However, many fans watch the soap because of these soap veterans. Don’t fear, there might be a plan to keep the Corrie icons on-screen without breaking any rules. Here’s the plan, according to an insider.

Older Actors Banned From Set

While some UK soaps have resumed filming, Corrie has not. In fact, network boss Kevin Lygo has banned older actors from returning to the set until social distancing rules have eased up. However, many viewers watch this soap just to see veteran soap icons.

So, what will happen if the vets can’t return to work when the young cast members can? How will we still watch Ken Barlow (William Roache), Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls), and Rita Tanner (Barbara Knox).

Corrie Spoilers: There’s A Plan

An insider told Talk TV that there is a plan to improvise if the soap vets can’t return to work when everyone else does. Per The Sun, the source explained that they would use video chats as part of the scenes in certain storylines.

Examples Of How This Would Work

Coronation Street spoilers reveal that there are many ways video chatting can be incorporated into the show. Younger generations using Zoom or Skype or even Facebook video calling to tell their elders how much they miss them. Or a video quiz night, as one source told Talk TV.

“Bosses know just how important these characters are to their millions of fans. And who wouldn’t love to see the likes of Ken, Evelyn [Plummer, Maureen Lipman], and Roy [Cropper, David Neilson] taking part in a Zoom quiz night?”

Coronation Street Spoilers: Changed Storylines

The executive producer of the soap, Iain MacLeod previously teased that some episodes would feature references to COVID-19. Maureen Lipman already admitted to begging bosses not to “ditch the oldies.”

“I had a word with the producer online and I said, ‘Don’t ditch the oldies because the oldies are what Corrie is about. Otherwise, we might as well call ourselves Hollyoaks… Why don’t you just let me and Roy sit in a garden somewhere and have a conversation about Donald Trump’s hair?’”

It’s already a given that certain storylines will have to be changed due to two reasons. The first is social distancing protocols. The second is to work around actors in the 70s and 80s that will not be able to return to the Manchester set right away.

What do you think of the plan to use video chatting so the vets can still be seen on-screen?

Great idea, and clever. Why aren’t the American soaps doing the same?
