Coronation Street spoilers reveal that Yasmeen Nazir’s (Shelley King) abuse storyline is really affecting viewers. So much, that many have filed complaints and want to know when it will end. Recently, the actress explained why the abuse plot is dragging on so long. She also defended the scenes between Yasmeen and Geoff Metcalfe (Ian Bartholomew), calling the storyline “brave.”
Coronation Street Spoilers – Geoff Metcalfe’s Abuse
Corrie spoilers reveal that Geoff’s abuse was slow-burning. It came on so slowly and subtly that Yasmeen didn’t even realize it. Now, it has escalated to the point in which Geoff fed Yasmeen her pet chicken, locked her in a magic box for hours knowing she was claustrophobic and has isolated her from loved ones. In an attempt to stop Geoff from losing his temper, Yasmeen even ate food off of the floor.
Coronation Street Spoilers – Viewers Complain
Viewers have complained about many recent storylines, including Geoff and Yasmeen’s abuse. Fans think that it’s too difficult to watch, but speaking to The Mirror, King said that this subject is important to tell.
It’s just not the abuse that she wants viewers to pay attention to, either. It’s how it crept up on her. That the abuser whittled away at her self-esteem first, then slowly and subtly got more abusive. He even uses a lot of gaslighting techniques, which is probably the most damaging to one’s mind.
Coronation Street Spoilers – When Will Yasmeen Nazir Escape?
Coronation Street spoilers reveal that King talked to Metro awhile back about the abuse storyline. She had this to say,
“… you will see it’s not quite as easy as her just leaving. I would urge people to hang in there – it’s a great exploration of the psychology of relationships like this, which have happened since civilization began. There’s lots more to come – and I think we have enough episodes up until the summer.”
Some fans thought this meant Yasmeen’s abuse story ends in summer, but she might have been referring to how many new episodes ITV has while the stars are in quarantine. Whether it ends soon or later, King definitely confirmed that she doesn’t go to prison and survives Geoff’s abuse.

Coronation Street Spoilers – Shelley King Defends Storyline
As for fans complaining about the abuse storyline, King told The Mirror that it has to be difficult to watch so people understand. She explained that Corrie would be doing victims a disservice by making it short and easy to watch.
She also said that this type of abuse doesn’t happen right away. It’s a slow and methodical process. Victims self-respect and self-esteem is slowly shredded until they are “ripe” for abuse. Then, the real horror begins.
When do you think Yasmeen will finally escape her abuser? Will Geoff go to prison, will he die, or could Yasmeen simply choose to walk away?

Even though the story has been going on for some time, it is important for Yasmeen’s story to be told. The reality is that women live like this every day and it doesn’t end over night. Geoff belongs in jail.
