Hill joined Coronation Street back in 2015. She has enjoyed her time in the show, which is why it’s difficult for her to leave the place she called her second home for seven years. The actress revealed that it was an “extremely emotional” decision to step away so she could spend more time with her family.

In an interview with The Mirror, Hill admitted that it wasn’t easy to decide to exit the show but she had to because the pandemic has made her rethink her future.

COVID-19 has affected everyone across the world in different ways including Hill. It made her realize what’s important for her and what her priorities are, and that is her family.

The actress already filmed her final scenes in Coronation Street but it’s good to hear that the show is open for a possible return.

“I’m flattered and grateful. You never know what’s around the corner there, so let’s see what happens,” the actress said.

John Whiston, head of ITV, described Cathy as a great Corrie character.

“We’re sad Melanie is taking time away – she is such a skilled actress that she can deliver sadness and laughter, drama and comedy often in the same scene. We will all miss her hugely,” he said.

Coronation Street Spoilers – What Matthew’s Cathy’s Exit Storyline?

The actress said that Coronation Street has written great stuff for Cathy, Paul, and Alex (Liam Bairstow) and it will be emotional. Does her departure mean she’ll also end her relationship with Brian (Peter Gunn )?

Spoilers hint that Brian will take Cathy for a date. The latter will be all dolled up for their night out. When Brian takes her to the Rovers, Cathy is saddened when she realizes that they will just be doing some beer tasting.

Later in the week, Cathy will discover some papers in Brian’s bag. She’ll be shocked at what she sees and it could very well be the reason why she’ll decide to leave Weatherfield. What did Cathy find? How will this affect her relationship with Brian?
