Tony Maudsley Renews Contract With Coronation Street

Coronation Street spoilers and updates tease that Tony Maudsley isn’t going anywhere. He renewed his contract with the show and will continue playing the role of George Shuttleworth on the ITV series at least until July 2023.

He shared the good news on Twitter and fans were quick to congratulate him. One fan replied to his tweet and said that he’s a great addition to the show and he’ll be a firm cast member of the series for several years to come.

Other followers replied that he deserves to have a spot on the show. One person even joked that Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver) will surely be happy to have George around.

Coronation Street Spoilers – Tony Maudsley’s Journey On Coronation Street

Fans may recall that Maudsley joined the cast of the ITV series back in September 2020. The character was introduced following the death of his father, Archie Shuttleworth (Roy Hudd).

After Archie’s passing, George took over their family’s funeral directory business, which he expanded by opening another location on Victoria Street.

George Shuttleworth And Eileen Grimshaw’s Love Story

George didn’t only keep himself busy with the family business, he also found love. Last year, viewers saw him finally get together with Eileen. At first, they didn’t want to rush their relationship but they eventually decided to go all in.

“It has taken a while, he has been eased into the show very gradually over the past 12 months,” the actor said last year.

He explained that viewers were very protective of Eileen. If their relationship progressed quickly, it’s possible that fans won’t be so welcoming. Maudsley also said that Cleaver has been with the series for more than two decades. She has had other relationships in the past but they didn’t work well for her.

However, it seems like many of the show’s followers are rooting for Eileen and George. Maudsley said that the latter is a “sensitive softy” who could make Eileen happy if only she would allow it.

Coronation Street Spoilers – Alexandra Mardell To Leave Coronation Street

Maudsley may be extending his stay on Coronation Street but someone will be leaving the show soon. Alexandra Mardell is set to leave the ITV series as Emma Brooker. Her character will be bowing out next week after her involvement in the death of Ted Spear (Duggie Brown) is revealed to her current love interest, Jon Spear (Jordan Ford).
