Days Of Our Lives: Jen Lilley Slams ‘Horrible’ Theresa Donovan Recasting, Fans React To ‘Amazing’ Replacement!

Days Of Our Lives spoilers reveal a recasting that shocked both a popular actress and fans. And amid Days Of Our Lives viewers’ stunned reactions to a swap in the star portraying Theresa Donovan, Jen Lilley has spoken out.

Days Of Our Lives Spoilers – Recasting Stuns Star!

Jen Lilley has portrayed Theresa Donovan in a recurring Days Of Our Lives role since 2013. But now Lilley steps out as another actress takes over that role. And the credits for the October 2 episode of Days Of Our Lives revealed that Emily O’Brien has become Theresa. However, because fans have known Emily as Gwen Rizczech (now von Leuschner) since 2020, they reacted with outrage. And Lilley herself revealed that she heard about the recast on the set, reported TV Line.

As a result of how producers handled the news, Jen called it a “horrible situation. Top to bottom, it was just not handled the right way,” shared the Days Of Our Lives star. And she added, “Everybody was mad, because everybody was kind of lied to.”

Lilley recalled how she contacted former Days Of Our Lives co-executive producer Albert Alarr (since fired due to a misconduct investigation) about Theresa returning to Salem for Victor Kiriakis’ funeral. And Jen described a contract that called for her to film 12 weeks’ worth of scenes in four weeks. However, when that time period ended, Theresa’s storyline seemed open-ended.

DOOL Spoilers – A Confrontation On Set!

And so Lilley staged a confrontation with Alarr in his office. As a result, he confessed, “Theresa’s still going to do all of that… it’s just we’re going to do it with a different Theresa.” And Jen shared that she thought when she inked the contract, the writers hadn’t finished her plot. “I think they were bluffing at the time,” she said. And Alarr’s confession seemingly showed that she had guessed correctly.

But Lilley shared that she feels sorry for O’Brien. And Jen even offered tips to Emily about how to portray “the funniest, sassiest character in daytime.” And reflecting on the recasting, Lilley added, “That poor girl has had to have conversations with me [on set, knowing she was going to replace me]. How horrible she must have felt!”

But fans also have voiced their views. For instance, one Days Of Our Lives fan wrote on social media, “Is Theresa going to be on long or short term ? I don’t like Days using actors for multiple characters. It’s really odd and I always see the actor as their previous more well known character. Not a fan of this and wish they would’ve recasted with a new actress.” And another fan summed up, “This is a train wreck,” while another shared, “This is ridiculous.” But one fan noted, “Emily is an amazing actress, but this is going to be so odd.”
