It also explains why Eric was seen in priestly attire in the winter promo. John might have the faith and strength to save Marlena, but to prevent the devil from coming back into her again, an ordained priest will need to seal that door shut. That is likely the purpose of Eric arriving in Salem.

Even though Eric does show up to help save his mother, actor Greg Vaughan told Soap Opera Digest that is not the main focal point of the character’s return.

Days of Our Lives spoilers reveal that Eric has grown and changed a lot since viewers last saw him. It seems that Eric is back to make amends and one person he might reach out to is Nicole. Even though Nicole was the one who cheated, Eric probably understands that he abandoned his wife for nearly a year.

“I’m revisiting the character, and putting the training wheels back on, seeing where he’s matured while dealing with the aftermath of Eric and Nicole’s marriage not working. I think there’s a lot of growth that’s taking shape, so he’s coming to make amends.”

It is teased that Eric pays a surprise visit to Nicole, who has moved on with EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel) while denying her feelings for Rafe Hernandez (Galen Gering). Don’t expect “Ericole” to get back together. Eric’s stay is only temporary but it is an important one. Not only does he come to help Marlena but he probably wants to make amends to Nicole.

Enough time has passed where Eric probably realizes his role in the marriage falling apart. Nothing can change what’s happened, but Eric and Nicole can get real closure. They can also get back on good terms with no hard feelings. How will Nicole feel when she sees Eric again? We will have to keep watching the NBC soap to see what happens with this storyline.
