Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers seem to hint that the soap is finally moving away from the Devil storyline that’s plagued the show for what seems like, forever. After Satan left Salem when Tripp Johnson (Lucas Adams) sacrificed himself in May 2022, fans thought they were done with DOOL’s devilish antics, but more recently, Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall), Kate Roberts (Lauren Koslow), and Kayla Johnson (Mary Beth Evans) had to deal with the ultimate demon once again. Most fans were scratching their heads as to why the soap went the “Heaven versus H-E (double hockey sticks)” route, and the head writer for the show recently offered some insight.
Days Of Our Lives Spoilers – Why Go Back There When Fans Wanted It Gone?
Days Head Writer, Ron Carlivati recently spoke with Soap Opera Digest (SOD) about the whole storyline. While fans are currently watching Bo Brady (Peter Reckell) and Hope Williams Brady’s (Kristian Alfonso) splashing return, this story was originally slated for Beyond Salem: Chapter 3. Early on, the show had decided that the three women’s deaths would be linked to Bope’s comeback; however, Kate, Kayla, and Marlena were supposed to “die” on DOOL and “wake up” in cryogenic chambers in Beyond Salem. Unlike the two previous installments, this time around, DOOL wanted storylines on Beyond Salem to be closely linked to the main show.
Days was pitching the third Beyond Salem series to Peacock, with no final decision from the streaming service. DOOL moved forward with the story on the show, but as timing plans had changed, Carlivati notes that Marlena, Kate, and Kayla were sent to purgatory to “stall” the storyline as they were still flipping back and forth Peacock about whether or not Beyond Salem was a go. By the time things were sorted out, it was revealed the soap was moving to Peacock, anyways. All’s well that ends well, right?
DOOL Spoilers – Ron Carlivati’s Thoughts On Purgatory
Ron notes that he thought the women’s experiences in heave/purgatory were “super fun”, and in many ways, the dialogue and the characters that returned did make an interesting watch. With that said, the arc wasn’t overly welcomed by some viewers who felt like the “Devil” angle had been overdone.

NO I ABSOLUTELY HAVEN’T ENJOYED THE DEVIL SERIES!!!!!!!!!!
I enjoyed it, it was alot of fun! Especially the bit about the “Baby Sharks” LOL
Not really. The Devil thing has been way overdone. They should just have them waking up in the tubes.
I didn’t enjoy the heaven scenes, with the extended devil storyline. Very boring and a turn off! My Dad as well wasn’t happy with it!
