ABC General Hospital spoilers and updates reveal there’s a reason why there are so many GH fans that like to call Maura West the undisputed queen of daytime television. That’s because she truly is at the top of her game when it comes to her multi-faceted portrayal of the complicated, yet also very poised Ava Jerome. Here are just a few reasons why Maura should win this year’s Daytime Emmy Award for Lead Actress in A Drama Series.
She’s The Ultimate Anti-Heroine
There’s a good reason why Maura West is nominated over and over again. That’s because her character is one of a kind in the daytime television world. There truly isn’t another anti-heroine like Ava Jerome in the soap world.
Sure, there might be Phyllis Summers on The Young and the Restless and Gabi DiMera on Days of Our Lives, but there’s just something about Ava Jerome that makes you feel as though you should hate her, but also can’t help but cheer her on and care for her, too. Clearly, Maura West is in a league of her own when it comes to portraying such a multi-dimensional character with the ease, comfort, and experience like she has.
General Hospital Spoilers: She’s Shown Strength And Vulnerability
Let’s face it: Ava has had one of the worst years on record, yet she’s still standing strong. Who can forget the night that Ryan Chamberlain killed her daughter Kiki Jerome but then went on to sleep with her only a few short hours after the murder? When Ava found out the truth, you could see the blood in her eyes but being the cold and calculating person that she is, Ava made sure to get her revenge in the best way possible. Ryan might have been the most dangerous man in Port Charles, but he was no match for Ava Jerome.
Maura also does an incredible job of making Ava sympathetic and vulnerable at the same time. Maura even once said that she’s the last person who judges her character Ava and all of the things she’s done and said in the past. Instead, she does her job of bringing out the best and the worst in Ava and letting the audiences decide if they want to love her or loathe her. Strangely enough, it’s been a combination of both.

Her Push And Pull With Nikolas on General Hospital
There’s no denying that General Hospital audiences were just as shocked and surprised overseeing Nikolas Cassadine in Port Charles again the same way Ava was when she saw his face. They are the kind of couple that you want to root for but at the same time enjoy all of the feistiness and backstabbing manipulation we’ve seen from them so far. Ava and Nikolas would definitely make a great couple if only they would allow themselves to stop pretending like they didn’t need each other.
Sure, Ava might be someone who always has her eyes on the prize but at the end of the day she wants to love and be loved just like everyone else in Port Charles. Plus, Ava knows that she and Nikolas could easily become the ultimate power couple if they only stopped focusing on their own interests. Maura West brings does such an excellent job of bringing that passion, that excitement and that extra edge to Ava that sometimes we almost forget that she’s supposed to be a villain.
