General Hospital spoilers tease that like Tracy Quartermaine, (Jane Elliot) many fans were taken aback by the bright new look of the interior of the Quartermaine mansion, while others, like Tracy’s granddaughter Brook Lynn Ashton, (Amanda Setton) absolutely adore it! We want to know what you think, General Hospital fans!
The Old Quartermaine Mansion
Tracy probably likes the old Quartermaine mansion better because she grew up there and her memories are there. Even though it is still the Quartermaine mansion, there has been a radical change. Most of the old interior was different types of wood, and while real wood in an older home that has been maintained is something to be proud of, especially if it would be considered an “antique” home that is apt to be declared a historical site, then you wouldn’t want to mess with any of the original interior accouterments.
The staircase was darker but structurally but in reference to the shape of it, it is the same after the remodel. Behind the scenes, General Hospital production designer Jennifer Elliott explained in Soap Opera Digest that the retooling of the set had become necessary due to needed repairs, so the General Hospital powers that be decided to not only refurbish but do a total remodel and write it into the scripts! The old Quartermaine mansion also had old furniture, old art, and many old bookcases and gave a darker ambiance to the set.
The New Quartermaine Mansion
The new Quartermaine mansion interior is lighter, brighter, and not nearly so “busy”. Instead of dark, and in some cases, mismatched woods, it has bright, modern colors. The rooms look bigger, and there are new bookcases, and instead of wooden bookcases, the new bookcases are plexiglass. There are two new bookcase walls in the living room, and in between the two sets of French doors, an art wall with recessed lighting has been built. There are also some new walls in the foyer.
The new art is more modern art (some Quartermaine must have hit Ava Jerome’s (Maura West) art auction!) and instead of wooden floors, there are now marble floors. There has been no word, however, on whether Olivia Quartermaine (Lisa LoCicero) finally got a pizza oven for the kitchen! There is also all the new furniture and lamps. There hasn’t been a scene yet that has shown if the traditional grouping of old family photographs is still there, but they probably are – but maybe on a wall somewhere since they are not on the fireplace mantel.
The fireplace looks like it’s been upgraded as well with a large modern painting, although not an abstract painting, it appears to be a painting of a lake with reflections of the trees surrounding it in the water. It appears that they were going for a more relaxing ambiance and a brighter, more positive feng shui in the Quartermaine mansion.
So let us know what you think; yay or nay? Do you think the renovations and remodel of the Quartermaine mansion are horrible and in a sense blasphemous like Tracy thinks? Do you think years of Q family history have been destroyed by the remodel, or do you support Brook Lynn’s opinion and like the idea of a modernized, bright, and hopefully CALMER ambiance in the Quartermaine mansion?

It is horrid! Doesn’t even resemble the old house at all. Waste of money.
They need to hire consultants for their stories. Sick of the rewrites and lack of continuity.
Frank needs to go!!!
The entrance door is on the wrong side of the house!!!! Did you think we wouldn’t notice????
Too modern for that type of house
Looks cheap
That is the first thing I noticed, How exactly did they manage that? Completely opposite sides of the foyer.
This was my only complaint! The layout is completely wrong! If they had redecorated with the same layout then I wouldn’t have cared so much!
