General Hospital spoilers reveal Austin Gatlin Holt (Roger Howarth) is about to get a big bump in his professional life. Since coming to Port Charles and leaving Pautauk behind, Austin has been trying hard to change his life and move on from the criminal past he was dabbling in with his cousin, Mason Gatlin (Nathanyael Grey) — who still wants to rope him into trouble at every turn.

Austin hasn’t had trouble turning Mason down, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t itching to drag himself down with drama and criminal behavior in other forms. Just ask Damian Spinelli (Bradford Anderson) and Ava Jerome Cassadine (Maura West). When Austin is given a big promotion at General Hospital, will it spur any change in his personal behavior?

Apart from a few questionable behaviors that have GH fans wondering what really lurks behind Austin’s charming smile, he’s been a fairly stand-up citizen and doctor.

That will become far more recognized when he is bestowed with the great honor of stepping in to fill Dr. Britt Westbourne’s (Kelly Thiebaud) shoes as Dr. Terry Randolph’s (Cassandra James) Co-Chief of Staff. Everyone is going to be thrilled with the change and feel there isn’t anyone better for the job, but does Austin agree?

When Ava gets wind of Austin’s promotion, she’s going to be happy for him, too, but that won’t stop her from mulling it over and trying to figure out how his pay boost might benefit her.

Nah, Ava doesn’t need dinero from any man, but Austin’s authority at the hospital could move mountains in the way of loosening up some ancient regulations that are preventing Willow Tait (Katelyn MacMullen) from accepting a bone marrow transplant from Wiley Corinthos (Viron Weaver).

There are special rules for minors that young, and Wiley hasn’t been on the table as an option because of them. However, General Hospital spoilers show it’s going to pain Ava to watch her bestie, Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros), struggle with facing the near death of her daughter.

Ava knows what it feels like to lose a child, and Nina has already lost one. Will Austin help them bend the rules to see to it that Willow gets what she needs to survive?

Well of course he will! Austin bends the rules for everyone — not just himself. His scheme to blackmail Spinelli in hopes of securing a stronger relationship status with Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms) might have blown up in his face, and he might have been hooked and nearly killed by Heather Webber (Alley Mills) when he tried to help Ava out, but Austin chooses to look on the bright side.

For example, only Mason knows Austin helped Ava move her almost-dead ex-husband’s body — and he’s more or less holding it against Ava, not Austin.

Okay, maybe that’s not the bright side, but it should serve as a reminder to Austin that Mason and his boss lady have their eyes on him — even as he acts as Co-Chief of Staff.
