General Hospital Spoilers: Confirmed – Don’t Expect To See Roger Howarth Back As Todd Manning

General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal that fans are waiting with bated breath to see who a fan fave actor returns to the canvas as in the near future.

But one media site is reporting that there is one fictional persona that definitely won’t make it back to the screen. According to Daytime Confidential, sources have told them that ABC nixed the idea of Roger Howarth (Franco Baldwin) reprising his role as One Life to Live character Todd Manning.

Franco was murdered last month by Peter August (Wes Ramsey) but it has been confirmed that Howarth will return to the cast of GH, with a huge question mark in the air as to what character he will play.

Manning was a character from the Llanview, Pennsylvania based soap OLTL and reportedly GH execs floated the idea of bringing back the character to its Port Charles, New York based soap.

It has been reported that one of the reasons given for writing off the controversial character of Franco is the character’s connection to rape. The role was originally cast with James Franco (who just wanted to ‘do’ a soap).

During his run Franco sexually assaulted Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco) and arranged for Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) to be raped while in prison.

When Howarth assumed the role those storylines were retooled so that Franco never assaulted Sam and did not intend for Michael to be attacked. Franco’s ugly past, including being a serial killer was then explained with the convenient soap opera trope that he had a behavior influencing tumor.

Despite how heavily TPTB rewrite history fans retain memories. Many fans could never get past the character’s horrible past to see him as a rehabbed art therapist.

They were also unable to accept the wretched character paired with glowing, doe-eyed Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) an eternal damsel in distress.

General Hospital Spoilers – What Happens Next In Port Charles, NY?

The latest iteration of Franco had Howarth and Elizabeth happily married, and he being a warm and fuzzy stepdad to her three sons. Apparently that scenario was too much to stomach for too much of the audience and thus the show is at this sticky fork in the road.

According to the site, a source spilled: “Howarth is definitely staying put but he won’t be back as Todd. They want a character with less controversy surrounding him so he can be paired with any of the women on the canvas.”
