General Hospital Spoilers: Here’s Why Kiki Jerome Had To Die

As sad as fans are to see Kiki Jerome killed off on General Hospital, the soap’s writers are now going on the record to explain why they made the controversial decision. And while her death wasn’t the only option left in the books for Kiki, (Hayley Erin) Shelly Altman says that it was the best option for the character. Here’s why.
Kiki – portrayed by actress Hayley Erin – has had one year full of ups and downs. Not only did she deal with her own “Me Too” situation at the hospital with Dr. Bensch, but she was also romantically involved with her mother Ava’s (Maura West) boyfriend, Griffin. (Matt Cohen) If that weren’t enough, she was suddenly introduced to the long-lost sister she never knew she had, Sasha (Sofia Mattsson) and had to deal with her getting a little too up close and personal with Griffin as well.
Co-head writer Shelly Altman told Soap Opera Digest in an interview that while everyone is sad to see Kiki go, there was no way that Hayley could pull off double duty by appearing on both General Hospital and her primetime series, The Perfectionist at the same time. The show’s writers considered recasting Kiki, but considering the current storyline that involves Ryan (Jon Lindstrom) as Port Charles’ serial killer, Shelly knew that someone had to die.

And while they didn’t want to see her go, Shelly added that they wish the talented actress the best of luck on her new Pretty Little Liars reboot, The Perfectionist. It’s without a doubt that General Hospital fans and viewers feel the exact same way, too!

Yes I’ll miss Kiki. I think she should’ve been recast. She was a character that was on her way to becoming a doctor. So she slept with her mother’s boyfriend? So what? Her mother had a habit of sleeping with Kiki’s boyfriend! Kiki was also a nice character and we need nice characters on GH. There’s not too many “nice” characters in Port Charles. Whatever happened to love in the afternoon?
I completely agree with you that there are not enough nice people on GH. They got rid of Sabrina who I loved with Michael. She was a kind and caring character with some flaws but she was beautiful inside and out. THey gush over Nelle which I cannot stand and that is wrong. They should have recast the character. I hope Nelle stays away period. She is evil and annoying.

I Would of loved to have seen Kiki’s character recast. They could off of offed one of the nurses like AMY or Franchasca , even Tj one of the characters we knew but didn’t see that much for the Ryan storyline! I can’t wait form that storyline to end Andy Laura figure out that Ryan is not Kevin! If Carley would of went ahead and told her that she thought her neighbor looked like Kevin she would of figured it out by now! I feel for Griffin every woman he gets with dies unexpectedly or is a pyshco like ava
Writers made a huge mistake not recasting Kiki show is not nearly as interesting. The mother makes me want to turn the channel now I just do errands while she is on.
We have all been talking about a recast for Kiki but Shelly made that role and it’s hard to replace…Like Lulu and other recasts….These actors must be good because they play their rolls so good we hate the ones that should be hated ad love the ones that should be loved, as far as WE are concerned…It’s the writers that write these rolls…so we should be after them to produce the material for the actors….enough said from me…lol
Also Anna and Finn….he is too young for her…Anna is a great actress but the writers surely have a problem with pairing these starts…I have followed Michael Easton for some time in different soaps and he is so good and believable but GH writers are not doing him justice at all…pik it up for him…he can handle it….Why did AJ leave? I must have missed something…
I like Finn and Anna. They aren’t that far apart in age and dating younger women happens all the time with men and we don’t bat an eye. I think they are cute and fun together.

Anna is 59 in real life. Finn in real life 51 not a big deal. I agree it seems to be find for men to date or marry a woman 30 years younger. They do make a cute couple.
Just a stupid EXCUSE!! There was no GOOD reason to kill Kiki. They could have killed Sasha, if someone had to die. Lazy writing!
Yes,,,at first, to me, she was kind of boring; however……she really turned that character so believable …. I loved her with Griffin…(so tired of writers paring Ava with much younger men…it is so non believable…and when are you gonna take that martini glass out of her hand? I have never seen her ”empty handed”) just my opinion…and was really enjoying Griffin and Kiki,….they were a great pair…I wish her all the luck in the world…but with her talent I am sure she will stand on herpwn …Fix Griffin up with another great star…The actors are only as good as you feed them great material…Us fans don’t want to write the dialogue so stop asking what the next scene should be..some of us have watched since day one…you seem to be grasping at straws…please don’t let the show fail…and for Godsakes…bring Kevin back…I think he is playing his role so great…it’s hard to believe the same actor is playing both roles…cuz Ryan is sure ‘on the dark side”….Let’s have a Merry Christmas and end that role….and please leave Spencer here…that kid is unbelievable in his delivery…I just love him….so talented…..just saying……

I wish the writers, would have found another way to keep Kiki alive they could have recast her, by the way she was recasted before. And bring her back to the show, we loved KiKi. With Griffin. You could still recast her. Just pretend that it was a dream, that Ava was having because she was angry with KiKi. Please bring KiKi back and make fans happy. Please don’t do what you did with Billy Miller and Steve Burton. Billy Miller was the better Jason, then you bring, Steve Burton in. Fans haven’t forgotten that.
Yes. At first I thought she was a terrible actress but she really grew over the years. Her acting improved greatly and I will really miss her.

I think Kiki was ok it does not matter whether she left or not. However I don’t like when they leave and then they are recast. If you want to leave for a period of time then come back that’s ok, but to kill them off and bring them back from the dead is a little too much. I like the old characters that’s on there now. Ava played her part so well, I felt her sorrow if though it was real. Without Sony, Ava, Franco, Jason, or Julian I think General Hospital would not be the same, also Carly too.
I wish they had recast Kiki but I hated that they had her sleep w/Griffin then breakup her relationship w/her mother! I really hated that storyline! As many seem to have forgot, Kiki dumped Morgan for Michael/Morgan got involved w/Ava so this BS that Ava slept w/Kiki’s boyfriend give me a break! Kiki dumped him for Michael! Anyway, somehow they got Morgan back w/Kiki which didn’t make sense since he kept cheating on her w/Ava until he decided he loved Kiki. If anything it seems as if Kiki seems to go after Ava’s men! Smh

Kiki brought so much life to the screen. Ava did an amazing job when she realized Kiki was dead. I wish things could have stayed as is. Good luck to Kiki in her new venture in life. One amazing actress!!
Kiki will be missed. I wanted the character to be lost daughter of Nina. This would have been good storyline for Nina and Ava to play out on screen. Nina’s Mother would had paid Ava to raise the baby. Ava was already paid to have an affair with the husband
You do not have to kill characters off all the time. Ryan can kill other people in Port Charles. We do not have to know the victims. Bodies are popping up —- bodies are appearing all around the town. (Just like in other TV shows)
I can’t believe you let Kiki get killed. She was so good & was getting her life in order finally. Would of loved to see Ryan kill Ava & the chief of police catch Ryan in the act once Ava was dead. Poor Kiki, great actress…. sad that Kiki’s gone….
