General Hospital spoilers and rumors tease Olivia Quartermaine (Lisa LoCicero) will reel when doctors bring up advance directives and DNRs, or Do Not Resuscitate forms. Olivia freaks out because she thinks it means Ned Quartermaine (Wally Kurth) will surely die, not understanding the forms are standard and “just in case”.
General Hospital Spoilers – Olivia Quartermaine Will Not Let Her Husband Die!
Anytime a patient is in a serious condition where they could be on life support for years, or in a vegetative state, doctors ask if they have advance directives or DNRs. This has nothing to do with life-saving efforts at the scene of an accident, such as Ned suffered when he slipped on towels and fell in the pool.
CPR, or cardiopulmonary resuscitation is always performed in such an instance because paramedics, lifeguards, or good Samaritans at the scene don’t usually know the person or their wishes.
Such legal documents are also known as “living wills” where people put in writing ahead of time their own wishes, not wanting to put the burden on family and friends. No one wants to be put in the position of deciding for a loved one who cannot decide for themselves if they want to be on life support for an indefinite time.
GH Spoilers – Olivia Quartermaine Might Need A Sedative
When Olivia is asked this, she immediately panics and screams she refuses to let Ned die, and she won’t sign any forms for anyone else to! She’s in such a state that she may have to be sedated, until Dr. Austin Gatlin-Holt, (Roger Howarth) who happens by on the scene, calms her down, explaining it’s standard.
Dr. Hamilton Finn (Michael Easton) soon shows up and confirms what Austin’s told her-they’re just asking in case Ned had such papers drawn up previously himself. If he did, they have to go by his wishes; there are none as far as she knows, and Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) doesn’t think he does either.
Olivia is still close to panicking but understanding the questions and what the forms are makes her feel a little bit better.
General Hospital Spoilers – None Of The Quartermaines Would Want To Make That Kind Of Decision
None of the Quartermaines would want to make that kind of decision, even though they are advised sometimes family members are asked about healthcare power of attorney or signing forms.
They’re meant to alleviate patients lingering for years in vegetative states or certainly fatal illnesses, but they are of little comfort to loved ones.
With a human being it’s nothing like making a decision to put a beloved pet out of its’ misery, although everyone knows that can be just as painful.
Tracy contacts the family’s personal attorney just to make sure Ned didn’t sign anything ahead of time and waits for a call back. But for now, Olivia is somewhat calmed down and the family is there together, waiting to see what’s next for Ned.
