However, earlier this year, Metcalfe announced his plans to leave the show and Hallmart had to make plans to go on without him. It was revealed that Metcalfe did film some final scenes as well. Chesapeake Shores will pick up months after Abby and Trace’s kiss. In flashbacks, fans will see the blow-up between Trace and Abby that lead to him leaving town. Since fans don’t get to see the whole scene, some things may still be left to the imagination. However, fans should get enough of the story to at least make the flashbacks make sense.

After Chesapeake Shores season four and Trace’s vow not to leave again, fans had hoped for a reunion between the two. Unfortunately, with Metcalfe’s departure, this seems to be an impossible situation. Obviously, Hallmark isn’t interested in a recast at this point or they would have worked around Metcalfe’s decision to leave.

Abby goes to work with her father, Mick O’Brien (Treat Williams) at O’Brien construction. The company is hired to build a boutique hotel but there are issues as always. Abby is moving forward and taking charge of her life. Will Abby find happiness with Evan? Does Abby need more time to get over Trace before getting into a new relationship?

Abby may still be holding a torch for Trace but that relationship wasn’t working beneficially for her. Abby has been hurt time and again but Trace never changes. Can Abby find happiness with a new man? Will Abby’s daughters accept someone else into their lives.
