It looks like Hallmark Channel has an unexpected fan after Ted Lasso admits to watching its Christmas movies. It happened in the latest episode of the Apple TV+ show, where Jason Sudeikis’s character says, “They suck, but they’re great.”
Ted Lasso and Hallmark’s Christmas movies
In an excerpt of the latest episode, of Ted Lasso, Jason’s Sudeikis’s character compared the team’s latest offerings to Hallmark’s holiday movies. In a clip shared below, Ted gave Richmond FC a halftime pep talk. Meanwhile, he finds the perfect comparison between the team’s offensive strategy and the feel-good Christmas movies. It is clear that the team is confused by his comparison to the feel-good fare, as Ted says:
Hey fellows, listen up. We can get one goal and we’re right back in this thing. But right now, we are being so un-offensive we might as well be a Hallmark Christmas movie.
While Ted’s team may be confused, it is easy to get his point. Lasso then pulls Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) to one side, while complaining about Trett Crimm (James Lance) the local sports journalist. However, Roy quickly cut in, wanting to know more about the Hallmark comparison.
At this point, Sudeikis’s Ted gave a more detailed explanation, saying:
Hallmark Christmas movies are films that feature women from the big city falling in love with their childhood crushes.
Lasso continues, saying, “It’s usually some fella that owns a Christmas tree farm,” adding, “Sometimes he’s also Santa Claus or a prince.”
The soccer coach then notes, “They suck, but they’re great – but they also mostly suck, but they’re also kinda great. They’re good with the sound off.” Watch the clip below:

Jason Sudeikis on his son’s new love for soccer
The Ted Lasso star has admitted that the series has led to his son Otis, 8, falling in love with soccer. However, in an interview with Deadline earlier this month, Sudeikis confirmed that season 3 of Ted Lasso will be the last. While the news is sad, the actor did say it was “the end of this story we wanted to tell.”
However, while Ted Lasso may be coming to an end, this doesn’t necessarily rule out a spinoff to the soccer series. Jason, 47, said the finale episode of the series will feature a perfect storyline for some possible spinoffs. He added: “I think that we’ve set the table for all sorts of folks … to get to watch the further telling of these stories.”
Ted Lasso fans should keep tuned to see if these potential spinoffs do come to life. In the meantime, we wonder if Jason is bingeing past Hallmark Christmas movies along the way.
