Why Good Witch Got Cancelled After 7 Seasons

The Good Witch, a TV series version of a movie with the same name, first aired in 2015. It is a light-hearted fantasy-comedy Hallmark series, often associated with feel-good original series or movies.

The series casts Catherine Bell (who plays Cassie Nightingale) and Bailee Madison (playing the role of Cassie’s daughter Grace). The whole series focuses on this mother-daughter duo that audiences grew to love.

In July 2021, Hallmark Channel announced that the Good Witch would be canceled shortly after the network rebranded to Hallmark Media.

The rebranding may probably have had a role in the cancellation of the show. Hallmark didn’t really say anything about the reason for the cancellation. The rebranding may have curated some of the remaining shows and may be eyeing a different direction for the future, as Hallmark Media is leaning toward digital distribution and streaming after the rebranding. The show has loyal viewers, but it’s on cable TV.

The sudden finale also got mixed reviews from some fans as they expected more for the finale, given that the network just suddenly cut this family-friendly series. They said that the final episode seemed rushed and that it didn’t give justice to the whole series.

Maria Fischer, Director of Network Program Publicity of Crown Media, said that the series just reached its logical conclusion after 13 years of success. Even though the series started in 2015, the movie series on which the show was based was first released in 2008. The movie franchise has seven movies, released every year from 2008 until 2014.

Good Witch News – A Glimmer Of Hope For The Fans

Though it seems that the series has been canceled for good, Hallmark Media’s President and CEO Wonya Lucas said that they know how the fans feel about their recent decisions and that they are listening. She added that the Good Witch franchise, including Signed, Sealed, Delivered, are both on standby.
