Among other roles, Luke Macfarlane is known for 13 Hallmark Christmas movies and is currently filming his 14th. The Canadian actor has starred in such gems as A Shoe Addict’s Christmas, Chateau Christmas and Christmas in My Heart. However, he says the current movie will likely be his last.

No more Hallmark Christmas movies for Luke Macfarlane?

The LA times recently spoke to Luke Macfarlane about his latest Hallmark project. MacFarlane told them that the movie, with a working title of “Christmas Village” will likely be his last. Luke said: “They’ve been very good to me, but I think I’ve told my story for now with those folks,” adding:

I mean, how many firefighters can I play?

While this might be the last Hallmark movie for Luke, he has been keeping pretty busy. Fans will recall him playing Scotty Wandell on the ABC drama Brothers & Sisters. Meanwhile, at an age where many actors see their opportunities lessening, Macfarlane is enjoying a late-career breakthrough.

In fact, Luke, 42, will star alongside Billy Eichner in Bros., the first rom-com from a major studio featuring an all-LGBTQ principal cast. Meanwhile, the movie is set to debut in theaters on September 30, following its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival next week.

In the movie, Macfarlane plays Aaron, a “commitment-phobic estate lawyer” who ends up falling for Eichner’s character Bobby, a New York podcaster and museum curator.

Luke added that the one thing he really enjoyed about making Hallmark movies is that it is really fun to flirt, adding:

It’s fun to play that energy on camera, where relationships are at their best in those early times. I guess Hallmark has given me a lot of flirting lessons.

Originally, when Macfarlane read for the role of Aaron, director Nick Stoller, who co-wrote the script with Eichner, was amazed that the Juilliard-trained actor wasn’t better known. He said that when Luke walked in, he was like, “He should be Captain America!” Stoller has since cast Macfarlane as the husband of a character played by Rose Byrne in the AppleTV+ comedy show, Platonic. Stoller added:

It’s totally crazy that he’s not really famous. He’s so good-looking but he’s also a really good actor and he’s very funny. And for someone who’s so good-looking, he’s weirdly relatable.

While the upcoming Hallmark Christmas movie will likely be Luke Macfarlane’s last, his fans can look forward to seeing him in plenty more movies and shows.

He has one of the few stars that I still enjoy. I probably so at least 90 % of his movies. Some actors have that staying power ( meaning over seeing a actors.) So I wish him well in his new adventure.
