Black Panther 2: Release Date, Title, And Details

Black Panther sequel release date has been announced after many speculations from fans, with its official title taking after a popular cry in the movie.

The movie will be dropping on July 8, 2022, and fans are excited to hear the good news, with many crying out about the long wait that stands between them and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Marvel announced the news with a short clip that celebrates its movies.

Black Panther Lives On

The name of the Black Panther sequel takes after the famous rallying cry and respectful salute in the popular franchise, said by the late Chadwick Boseman’s character T’Challa. Boseman’s death last year after a battle with colon cancer has thrown the Black Panther Universe into disarray, with doubts as to the continuation of the franchise and if Marvel would be looking to replace the late actor at the time.

But according to new details regarding the movie, this appears not to be the case. Chadwick Boseman’s character is not going to be replaced by another actor, but Wakanda would have to get itself a new king or queen.

Eyes are turning in the direction of Princess Shuri, played by Letitia Wright, to step in as the lead role. With her impressive character arc, it would definitely be fascinating to fans to see more of one of the few fictional women in STEM that’s as tough as they come.

Details at this point are still under lock and key, as expected, so there isn’t much that is known about the movie’s plot and character development. We do know that Lupita Nyong’o will be reprising her role as Nakia.

News of the sequel came out shortly after the original movie was released, with Kevin Feige

announcing in a 2018 interview that he wanted Ryan Coogler to return to write and direct the sequel to Black Panther.

On March 9, Feige confirmed that there were plans to make a sequel to the Black Panther franchise. Ryan Coogler joined to write and direct the film, with filming expected to begin in late 2019 or early 2020. In August 2020 the Black Panther actor died after a four-year battle with Colon cancer and in November, Victoria Alonso announced that there were no plans to replace the actor or use a digital double, but that the studios were working on a way to honor the late actor for his work in the movie.

On December 10, 2020, Kevin Feige revealed that the sequel will focus on Wakanda and on all the rich and varied characters introduced in the first movie.

On April 14, 2020, it was announced that the name “Summer Break” was being considered, but was later changed to Black Panther: Wakanda Forever on May 3.

Nyong’o Remembers Her Late Black Panther Co-star Chadwick Boseman

In an interview with Yahoo Entertainment where the 38-year-old actress appeared to promote her YouTube Original animated series Super Sema, she explained how she would feel coming to the set knowing that Chadwick won’t be there anymore.

“People will ask me, ‘Are you excited to go back?’ Excitement isn’t the word,” Nyong’o said. “I feel like I’m in a very pensive and meditative state when it comes to Black Panther 2. [Chadwick’s] passing is still extremely raw for me. And I can’t even begin to imagine what it will be like to step on set and not have him there.”

She praised Coogler for honoring the late actor in the new script and his carefulness in writing about Boseman’s character’s absence in the upcoming sequel.

“At the same time we have a leader in Ryan, who feels very much like we do, who feels the loss in a very, very real way as well,” Nyong’o said. “And his idea, the way in which he has reshaped the second movie is so respectful of the loss we’ve all experienced as a cast and as a world.”

She further explained that Chadwick Boseman is the light that guides them to not only continue the movie but uphold his legacy.
