“Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny” Trailer Reveals Plot To Change History

From the very first film, Nazis have always played a prominent role in the “Indiana Jones” franchise, but their role in the fifth movie is everything, as they set out to change an important historical moment forever. It’s up to Indiana Jones to stop it.

It’s not going to be easy, not when his allies could turn out to be his enemies. Are we even ready for this?

Indiana Jones – What The Latest “Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny” Trailer Tells Us About The Upcoming Movie

The trailer begins with Harrison Ford’s Indiana Jones having a nap at home, before something scares him awake. We then see him walk into a building to hear people shout “surprise” at him. Sitting at a bar, he tells his goddaughter Helena Shaw (played by Phoebe Waller-Bridge) that he’s “retiring.” She asks, “Well in that case what are we drinking?”

“Dad told me you found something on the train during the war. A dial that could change the course of history,” we hear Shaw’s voice say as cut scenes show us the dial in question. Jones then asks, “Why are you chasing the single thing that drove your father crazy?” We are then shown a glimpse of younger Jones, and in so doing we are made aware of the existence of said dial and of the power it was rumored to have.

“Hitler made mistakes, and with this,” the main rival says as we are shown the dial, “I will correct them all.”

With Mangold brought on to direct the movie in 2020, following Steven Spielberg backing out, he made it clear that he wants to make a movie where there isn’t a clear distinction of who good guys and bad guys are. One of the things he also stressed about was how to use Ford’s advanced age, 80, to the movie’s advantage, so it feels like a strength and not a flaw.

“Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” will be the first movie not written by George Lucas and not directed by Steven Spielberg, even though they both serve as an executive producer.

Ford Harrison – On the De-aging Technique Used In the Upcoming “Indiana Jones” Movie

If you don’t already know, Harrison Ford will be appearing in the movie as two versions of himself. Fans first got a taste of this last December when a teaser trailer showed Ford’s character looking so noticably younger as a result of de-aging CGI.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he confessed that he was skeptical about the idea at first.

“I never loved the idea until I saw how it was accomplished in this case — which is very different than the way it’s been done in other films I’ve seen,” he said of the visual effects. “They’ve got every frame of film, either printed or unprinted, of me during 40 years of working with Lucasfilm on various stuff. I can act the scene and they sort through with AI every f—ing foot of film to find me in that same angle and light. It’s bizarre and it works and it is my face.”

He continued by sharing what he loved most about having two versions of himself in the movie, saying, “What I love is that we’re meeting him at a different point in his life to where we’ve seen him in these other films. It’s a logical place for him to be at this stage, considering his behavior and what he spent his time doing. It’s a very interesting script Jim came up with.”

“Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” will premiere in theaters June 30.
