Legally Blonde Officially Gets A Spinoff Series: Here’s What We Know So Far

It’s been over two decades since Reese Witherspoon wowed us with her blonde beauty and brains in the first installment of the “Legally Blonde” franchise.

Due to the widely positive reception of the first movie, the sequel “Legally Blonde: Red, White and Blonde” followed in 2003.

This was later followed by the 2009 direct-to-video spinoff “Legally Blondes,” which served as sort of a pilot for a potential series, but this did not take.

“Legally Blonde 3” has been in the works for several years with Mindy Kaling and Dan Goor working on the script, but nothing has come of it until now.

“Legally Blonde” Series Could Possibly Follow Adult Elle As She Navigates “Contemporary” Challenges

Reese Witherspoon’s role as Elle Woods in the first two “Legally Blonde” movies propelled her to superstardom.

Originally, Elle enrolled in Harvard Law School to get back her ex, but soon becomes a rising star in her department, even winning a murder case before her graduation.

In fact, the world of “Legally Blonde” seems to be a deeply interesting one, so much so several off-shoots are being planned for it.

Per Deadline, the series is already further along in the development process, with “Gossip Girl” developers/executive producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage working on the script.

The duo are also executive producing the project, with the plot currently under wraps, via their Fake Empire banner. They are joined by Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter via Hello Sunshine as well the Legally Blonde movie franchise producer Marc Platt.

The series is already in development at Amazon MGM studios.

In 2019, Witherspoon shared her desire to revisit the iconic character and see how well she’s faring as an adult. “I want to discover what age means to that character. Aging, contemporary ideas, how things have evolved — or not evolved,” she said.

At the moment, it’s not yet revealed whether the series will take its shape from the script already penned by Mindy Kaling and Dan Goor, or if it’s working with a new idea.

But one thing’s for sure, we’re about to have more “lawful blonde” than we know what to do with.
